Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Tuesday 27th at 9am works for me :-) Alternatively, I can make evenings.

I am very happy to offer hosting in the future - but not moving in to our apartment for another 3 weeks so later in the year will be more feasable!

Lavender - if you drive, the places we are talking about are about 15 minutes from Givrins (assuming it is where I think it is, this is only week 2 in Switzerland).

Ordering books shouldn't be a problem - the internet can provide assistance if the Lausanne bookstore struggles!

Looking forward to it
Beccy

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

I can do Tuesday or Wednesday, either one. One question, what do you mean when you say "diary"? A diary to me is something I wrote in when I was 12 and I am quite sure did not contain anything regarding books!

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

I don't know, it's like trying to herd cats on this thread!

I can make any morning except Wednesdays (my 5 yr old doesn't have school that day), and any evening subject to availability of hubby or at a pinch a babysitter. For evenings, Mons and Fris are likely to be easier, because hubby's travel is sometimes just a couple of days mid-week. (Note to self: find mythical local teen babysitter).

Personally, I'd prefer evenings as it would seem like more of a social life, although mornings would actually be logistically easier for me. Leave it with you...

Wednesday 28th or Friday 30th - both ok with me. Any suggestions as to where? Hotel de la Nouvelle Couronne as suggested by Erm sounds good...

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Wednesday 28th sounds good - I shall do my very best to rustle up a babysitter ( I know hubby's away that week). It'll be a good impetus for me to actually find one!

And yes, let's go with the Hotel de la Nouvelle Couronne - I have no idea what it's like but if we don't like it, we can pub crawl after everyone's arrived!

Oooh, I am tempted, I am a total lit nut. Just have to talk you, guys, into poetry, haha.

Although would have to ditch my Wednesday nite Stitch&Bitch. Is there anyway to do it earlier than 8pm?

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Any bookstore in the area would have to order multiple copies of books in any event (so you will have to wait a few days or often much longer for delivery). So in my mind the easier option is to have each person order the book from this website.

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/

Prices are better than anything you will be able to find in Switzerland. Books are delivered directly to the house. Delivery is free. Since you are each ordering the book, it will pass CH customs without any tax/duty (a bulk order would probably not). Delivery is normally 5-7 working days.

Books are sometimes available in three formats: Hardcover, Large format paperback and regular format paperback. It will depend on the book so you will want to check.

Good luck with your reading group.

At the Hotel de la Nouvelle Couronne like "Erm..." suggested.

Maybe bring just one or two suggestions for a good book to read?

Easy peasy

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

It sounds like it's all coming together and I would love to join you all later in the year, hopefully I will know where you all plan to meet being new but I'm sure I'll find you. I am in Givrins every other week or so between now and Christmas then permanently, so I will try and keep in touch and hopefully join you. I plan to drive over at some point so if I can help with books (i.e paperbacks from sains, tescos etc) just let me know, depending on quantities!

Also curious MusicChick whats stitch&bitch? I'm guessing some sort of sewing group?

It's in the centre of Morges, in the pedestrianised street. It'd be just a few minutes walk from the station.
