Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Here, bluesky - this post #73 has all the details. We have met twice so far, once in october and then last week. This post talks about the last meeting and the one planned for January. So, ideally, people plan on reading the book by the next meeting.

Everyone,

Thanks to all who attended Wednesday. Two of us hadn't finished the book, so we can catch up with the others next time around and finish talking about it

I'll not go into detail about what was said about Saturday, as we had a few people missing who, I'm sure, would like to share their opinions next meeting. So we'll leave it until then.

The next book:

The Time Traveller's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger

Next meeting:

13th January 2010

Same venue:

Hotel De La Nouvelle Couronne, Morges

Time:

8pm

Seems like a few people were ill or had children who were ill, so I hope they're all recovered now. Hate to echo the masses but there is definitely something going around!

SO glad we started up this book club, great to be meeting lots of different people but with a common interest.

Great to have Mister Finnish IT Man along on Weds - next time, you will have read the book we're talking about so hopefully more interesting.

Again, anyone welcome to the next meetup - look forward to seeing you all there!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrated it!

Stephanie

Hey - cool, I am in, I have been translating poetry for years and miss the scene..The jams, shows, I miss my people. I think I will always pick poetry over prose, so if we can do that, that would be cool.
And judging by your forum nick, you're probably quite heavily into music verse as well?

Then how about one book club and one poetry/verse club We could talk and analyse poetry and lyrics in music. Just a thought I guess... If there's enough interest to give it a try next week or the week after, I could make a separate Social Event thread, in any case I'm here all winter after I come back from Barcelona next monday so I got plenty of time...

bluesky: the next meeting will actually be the third one and takes place in January. Unless of course we make an off-shoot meeting earlier that revolves around poetry or stuff like that. Just go ahead and order the new book so you've got over a month to finish it (as it's over 500 pages).

I think you need more posts before you can thank people.

Maybe you can make to the poetry meeting if we organize one in a week or two.

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

yayay! a poetry off shoot sounds off the hook! hahaha...

i'd be into doing one before the holidays if anyone's up for it... maybe do it the same way, first meeting everyone bring a book, etc.

dates, anyone?
or should i make a new thread for this?
i'm psyched- and if anyone wants we can make it a workshop thing too, i facilitated some poetry workshops and online courses for s.u.n.y. and i would really love to start something here, there seems that there isn't too much in the way of poetry

bluesky- you can always read and post or p.m as you read if you want to- it's not a bad idea as a start!

amaraya: I'm all for it. Go ahead and choose a date and make a new social event thread about it as you see fit.
Workshop, discussion group, analysis, talking about them, all of it sounds good to me!

I'll have to print out some poems however, I don't have any of my books from back in the days anymore. The internet has provided more than its fair share of lyrics and poetry to me these days

Might bring some of my own as well...

But don't worry about the 500 pages thing; there's an awful lot of chapter headings and white space. It's actually quite a quick read.

I am not exactly chasing the music lyrics, haha..Too busy with the muzzak, need poetry on its own, really. Although I am heavily into heavy music for the same principle I love poetry.

Yo, poetry meetup is a great idea, I was thinking about it when the Book Cl. started just didn't hope anyone would be up for it, haha. I have work I need to look at, working on friend's poetry so it will be nice to have a time frame. I think before xmas sounds great - whatever suits peeps fancy, workshop, discussions, these things always evolve in an organic way.

It's funny SUNY got mentioned, that's where I worked last...

So, let's bring whatever people are reading, working on or wrote, k?

Now, do we do it at somebody's place? A bar again? I can't bring any xmas cookies into some bar

Amaraya, there is poetry work done I am sure, in Lausanne or Geneva, I just didn't come across many things. It's either so alternative it is not advertized or it is a matinee kind of official stuff, you know, audience, VIP author reading..

Is the book really 500pages??? Oh..haha I might take turns between the poetry and book club, or both (after the 500p book).

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Coolio!

I guess alternating between the book and poetry club every two or three weeks would keep us plenty occupied.
The book club requires digesting an entire novel and thus takes a bit more effort. This way they won't clash or occupy too much of each others time (if y'all see what I mean).

Let's hope the turnout is good

Happy New Year everyone!

How is everyone coming with the book?

Just thought I would give this a bit of a bump. Jan 13 is drawing near....

Stephanie, do you want to post an official 'event'? If not, I'm happy to take care of it.

Cheers,
rebecca

Almost finished reading my copy. It's a good book, I like how it's laid out as it makes it easy to pickup and read in small spurts.

I confirm that the 13th is still good for me.
