Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hi everyone! We put an official event on the calendar. For all those coming...if you could go and rsvp, that would be super! That way we can tell our lovely host how many folks to expect.

Cheers,
rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

I finished reading the last 100 pages yesterday and what a ride it was... it's these final pages that brought out all kinds of feelings in me

But totally worth it!

For those reading this thread and wondering where the event registration thread is, here's a quick link as it has moved down the page a little:

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I usually get a notification when there are new posts and I don't think I did, so I just carried on my merry way reading the book and didn't put up an event or anything! Je suis desole!

In future I'll make sure I do that in addition to sending a message about it. Otherwise it's trawling through the messages to find the details, isn't it?

Finished TTTW on the weekend while I was in the mountains - can't wait to see what everyone thought.
Looking forward to receiving some new members and returning ones tomorrow!

Is anyone in favour of doing a movie night with TTTW?
The film is just about out I think...on DVD. So if someone was willing to host, we could all bring food and drinks over and have a night in with the film - I really want to see it now!

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Thanks for putting the event up

I've called Ahmed to tell him we're coming tomorrow and he was delighted and said he'd have the area ready for us!

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Super, Stephanie! Yes...it should be a lively conversation.

I'd be willing to do a movie night at my place. I live in Gland, but it's only a 5 minute walk from the train station so likely a good location. My house isn't huge...but it is comfortable enough to pile everyone in.

How about we firm up some details tomorrow night? It would be best to plan the movie night within the next 6-8 weeks...because after that we're in baby due any minute territory ;o)

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Would love to see the film (if only to answer the 'how on earth can this make sense as a movie..?' ponder).

Are we supposed to bring along another idea for a book tomorrow, or are we still working through the original list?

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

I have the film (unwatched) and was going to suggest hosting a movie night when we meet tomorrow - and hopefully people will have their diaries with them. I'm sure we'll work something out... (I'm less convenient to a station that Rebecca - but also hopefully not about to drop a sproglette!!)

See you tomorrow (if I remember correctly, there will still several books on the list still to go.... but I'm sure adding to the list is never wrong!)

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hello,

I am a new comer... and I did not manage to read the book as i did not expect at all that i will be back to CH this week However, I still would like to come at least meet everyone there and catch up for the next book.

On my way back home tonight ( just 30 min ago), my car is broken. I will try to fix it by tmw. If i can make it, I will come then to the club and I am really looking forward to meeting your guys and sharing ( ok, rather listening for this time ) your view on the book

Cheers

Blue

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

hey! my name is Vikki, and i am new to the Morges area (Tolochenaz to be exact).
i have been here maybe a week and a half, and have had a bit of a rocky start due to problems back home, and have decided the best way to get past this start is to get out and meet people.
with my job (aupair) i dont meet people at work as you would in other jobs, and didnt really know where to start, so typed morges in the search here to see what came up. and as i do love reading, this thread appealed to me! i only wish i had found it sooner, i have been dying to read the time travellers wife!

as yet i am not entirely sure on what hours i will have to work, what nights etc, but i would be interested in joining you if i can! and if you would have me! or if anyone just fancies a coffee at some point etc, i could just really do with meeting some people to be honest!

I hope you all had a good new year

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

As for adding to the list, if you have a suggestion, by all means tell us!
Otherwise, dont feel you have to - we still have the list.

So we have 2 offers of venues for the movie night, so we can chat about that tomorrow - yahoo.

Anyone welcome - newcomers etc, so will be good to see everyone!

Stephanie

Amaraya, I'm going on the train. Which one are you taking? 7:28, 7:45 or 7:48? Also, my hubby is picking me up at some point, so we can give you a ride home if you like.

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Great evening, good to catch up, and see some new faces too.

That time-travelling TV series I was talking about, Journeyman, is on TSR1 on Mondays at 11.25pm. So far there've been two episodes: he's started involuntarily travelling back in time, always to 'track' someone and use them to affect someone else's life. His wife knows it's true (buried evidence in his own garden whilst back in time, etc), but no-one else does - his journalist work mates and his policeman brother think he's probably on drugs. There's a sub-plot concerning his ex-girlfriend, who supposedly died in a plane crash 9 yrs before but is now popping up in time with him.

There you go, you'll be able to pick it up from that. It's not stellar drama, but worth watching if you like time travel stuff generally. He disappointingly doesn't jump naked, but at least there are no small children involved.

Blue Sky, I'll send you a PM later today with instructions and links on how to get The Lovely Bones onto your iPhone.

See everyone on the 31st.

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Super y'all! Thanks for some needed time out of the house and lively discussion. I love how quickly we can all get to know one another. The more we do this, the better the discussions will be as we'll be able to anticipate some responses/comments from one another! I'm really looking forward to the next book.

@ thespouse: Knowing you like some action/history stuff in your reading....have you read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova? If not, do check it out. It's a good one.

As for the 31st....please check for a PM from me with the secret location ;o)

Cheers,
rebecca

Movie Night!!

Okay, so I just checked into buying the DVD....it turns out that it isn't officially being released to DVD until February 9, 2010. So...any ideas? I know that, nevereatyellowsnow has a copy on her computer...and her computer wizard husband is going to try to put it on a DVD but I think we should have a back-up plan just in case.

Suggestions? Comments? Anything?

rebecca
