Backup plan is good, in any case, I was going to recommend that someone passes the copy to you in advance so that you can be sure that there are no issues playing it on your DVD player or on something else...

Would have been a shame to arrive there and find out that "oops, it doesn't play"

Wikipedia has an article on the Journeyman, seems like they only made one season worth 13 episodes:

(copy/paste the URL, the right most bracket isn't registered in the link and needs to be taken into account).

The Wiki article's a fair representation. It's a pleasant enough way to pass 45 mins as I'm quite into time travel themes at the moment, but I wouldn't be over-fussed to discover the Cablecom box had fritzed out and forgotten to record it one week.

PS: If anyone else has an iPhone or iPod Touch and would like instructions how to get a copy of The Lovely Bones on it, let me know.

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hi!

Just wanted to give my apologies for not having shown up last night. It sounds like I missed out on an interesting discussion but with the large quantities of snow I really didn't want to venture out in my car - especially as I've only just had it back!!!

I've not quite finished the book yet but am really enjoying it and am waiting in trepidation for the "tear jerker" end which I believe is awaiting me.

Really hope to be able to join you at the next meeting - could someone let me know dates and times please and the next book.

Thanks
emma

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hi Emma

I'm sure there'll be an official RSVP-able note along soon, but in the meantime the next book is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, with the meeting to discuss it taking place at the usual bar in Morges on Wed 24 Feb.

Between times, we've pencilled in a Time Traveller's Wife film night on Sunday 31 Jan, which Rebecca (cute goat avatar above) has kindly offered to host at her house, but as you can see from the thread there's some discussion over how we can get a copy of the film for then. Watch this space...

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

I'm really sorry I didn't come along last night. I hadn't finished the book but was enjoying it so much that I didn't want to find out about the ending, whilst at the meeting!

I have to admit I'm struggling to get through the books in time, but have ordered the next book and will do my best to finish it and come along to the next get together.

Unfortunately I can't make the movie night, as I will be away on holiday.

Hope to see you all on the 24th.

Anne.

Evening All,

Brilliant evening last night, lots of banter and conversation. Difference in opinions was nice to see. Had a few new people too which took us to 12 in numbers again! Impressivo.

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hey everyone!! So....I have some bad-ish news. Looks like we're going to have to postpone the movie night until Sunday, February 21. I know it seems far away...but it turns out that there is no legal (or feasible) way to get the DVD of The Time Traveler's Wife prior to the release date of February 9. Keeping with the plan to do this on a Sunday night, I thought it better to skip Valentine's Day (in case some of us celebrate) and push ahead to the 21st. I know that we had planned to do the next book on the 24th...so I'm unsure how everyone will feel about this. Comments? Can we change it?

If so, the original calendar entry will need to be edited by the original poster. I was hoping to start the evening around 6pm...My plan is to make some pizzas so that we have at least one hot and substantial thing to eat. Additionally, my lovely pastry chef of a husband will likely make some sort of dessert item. If others can bring along some snacks/wine/beer/drink type things that would be super! Perhaps it would be a good idea to note in the RSVP space what you plan to bring...so that we will have different items represented.

Cheers,
rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Hey y'all,

In response,

I'll change the date in the calendar for the movie night, the new day is fine with me!

Feb 21st Movie Night
Feb 24th Book Club

Good idea to RSVP with what you will bring - please check the list before responding with your choice.

Ste xx

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Official details for the movie night on February 21st have been sent as a PM to those who I know were interested in joining us. If, you would like to come and didn't receive information regarding the location....please send me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Additionally, I set-up an official EF Group for the Morges Book Club. If you're already a card carrying member, please accept the invite as I believe this will make it a bit easier to send group messages/information. If you're not yet a card carrying member but would like to be....please go to the community tab above >> social groups and find us there.

Happy Wednesday to you all!

Cheers,
rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Rebecca,

You're brilliant. Thanks for setting up the group!
I had a look on Google Groups but I remember using it for the last book group in England, it used to spam everyone a bit by alerting whenever there was a new message, which was kind of annoying.

All sounds great for next 2 meetings!

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

We have 19 members signed up for the social group! Woo-Hoo!! What a great idea this was, eh? Good job, essellem (I can never remember how to spell your screen name, sorry).

Anyhow, wanted to let you know that I have NO idea how to make something alert me to messages that are posted within the book club area....however, I'm determined to figure it out. Meanwhile, we have a couple of newbies who have posted an introduction. Perhaps a few of you can pop over there and say hello? I guess until we all figure out how to be alerted we'll need to check that page occasionally on an EF visit.

Hope that your Wednesday was fab.

Cheers to all,
Rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Rebecca - did you manage to find out how to be alerted to messages etc posted in the Book Club section?
I have checked it a couple times.

We've got 20 people now? Mad!
It's great it's been so popular!
I've told Ahmed the next date so he said he'll have chairs ready! However.. I think we may have more people next time?

Please rSVP if you're coming so I can let him know - he gets awfully upset if he hasn't put the right amount of seating out! Hehe.

See you all soon! Hope you're all enjoying the book.

Stephanie

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

20 is crazy, huh?

I'm not positive...but I think if you go to the community > social groups > book club page, on the right, above the messages is a 'Group Tools' menu. I think that if you choose, Subscribe to Group and then on the next screen, Daily email notification...you will be alerted of new messages. We can give it a go, eh?

Cheers,
rebecca

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Rebecca,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for having us the other night! Being in your "state" and all. Hehe.

Food provided by you and hubby was great and everyone brought something nice. Great time had by all, lovely evening in.

I'm sure everyone's looking forward to the next one now!

Good luck with the baby - we all expect to hear details as soon as you're settled!

See everyone tomorrow night!

Stephanie

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

It was our pleasure to have everyone here.

So sorry that I can't make it tomorrow night. I'll let everyone know when the little one has arrived. Hopefully it will be soon!

Once he is here and the weather has warmed we will begin planning for the book club BBQ.

Cheers,
Rebecca

Looking forward to the club tonight- started the book yesterday (thanks beccy!!!!) cried in public on the m1 while reading the beginning
and finally finished it this morning- it was very good!

rebecca- we'll miss you tonight, but keep feeling good! i sent you the tea in the post- should be there in a bit ( sorry only had a few bags left, but really good if you make an iced tea of it- that's what i did during labor. you might as well throw in a few bags and make enough for the whole day. enjoy!)
