Ok humour a dimwit mod - is this the 'unofficial' drinks thread? the one where you discuss where to go next? would this benefit as a sticky so it becomes the chatter thread behind the official RSVP calendar threads?

They're near to Nachtflug.
I dare you to ask at the bar for a stiff one!
I'll be in the Lion later, if Nachtflug isn't happnin'.

He just looked confused. |

Guys, here's another venue that you all may want to consider for the weekend drinks.
Its a 2 week old bar called 'Devil's Pearl bar' opposite Bahnhof Wiedikon tram station, next door to McGhees. Website isnt even up yet. Cosy and stunning decor. Felt like I was in the house of a friend with excellent taste.
Was almost empty when we checked it out last night but I think its down to the fact that its a new bar and a Thursday night - and most of the action was happening next door at McGees. Had a two piece live band who are friends of the owner. Was that informal that they wanted to drag some of us up on stage and do a number.
Official opening's next Friday - snacks provided, in case anyone's interested.

It is very nice indeed, but it of course is not DeviL but simply DEVI.
Reminded me of the Boeing 707 of Air India which was so often in Zurich in the late 1960ies, carrying the name NANDA DEVI
until crashing into the Mont Blanc. The mountain above is the Nanda Devi. And the airplane below the "Nanda Devi".
We all were shocked. We were not Indians, had not been to India, were not related to the roughly 150 people on board, but we all had the feeling to have lost a good friend.
The lady in charge at the Devi is like a nice cousine to you, and it is soo pleasant in there .............. really

They've been open about 2 weeks and plan to have live music twice a week or so. The owner is happy to have a crowd of English speaking foreigners turn up. See you Friday?

One of our "resident Indians" might explain the meanings of the words or names "Nanda" and "Devi". thanks !

Devi is goddess.
Nanda means joy.
So Nanda Devi is the goddess that gives bliss/joy.

and the way it is not "Goddess of Joy" but "Joy Goddess" proves what a Mr Swaroop, an Indian colleague working at MAT GVA told me, that Hindhi is far closer to German than to French. Interesting indeed !

inglorious basterds at the abc. my eyes kept moving between the big
screen (Leiceister v Nhampton) and my date's violet leggings & boots
(and v nice they were, too!)
what's the Lion like during the rugby eg, Eng v the Crims on Sat??
I want to see that but my date's going to arrive while it's in progress.
Is there a bit more 'Lebensraum' than in the Olly Twist during Eng internationals? she'd get the hump (understandably) if it was like that
cheers for now

Was just a recommendation for the Fri sessions peeps, seeing that the past reviews of the previous Friday drinks venues were pretty impossible to hold proper conversations. Thought it would be a good change for them.
Sunday as usual though.

I spent most of the 6-nations there and it was a good crowd.
