| | | [Unofficial] Zurich Bar Recs for Weekend Drinks?
Friday is slowly approaching, and that means another drinking evening for us Zurich EF'ers. Slaphead asked me to set this one up.
I remembered that the Matahari was way too crowded and loud to hold a decent conversation. El Lokal is nice in the summer, but it's getting too cold to sit outside for 4 hours while drinking beer.
So, does anyone have recommendations where they'd like to have drinks with 20-30 of your fave EF'ers?
I'll still set up the area reservation and stuff.
I was possibly thinking about the Toro bar off of Langstrasse or Forecast Bar off of Niederdorfstr.

A big "thank you" to Sygirl for stepping into the breach for me. Unfortunately I've just got too much to do over the next two weekends to be able to guarantee my attendance, and it's really bad form to arrange an event and then not turn up, or just appear for an hour or so.
With luck I may be able to pop along and say hello, at least to the early starters |

Lessee now, here's a few ideas...
News Bar.
Pros: very central, easy to find, lots of eye candy
Cons: Crowded and smokey.
Nachtflug.
Pros: doesn't usually fill up, lots of space
Cons: not quite as easy to find
Almodo bar
Pros: ummm...
Cons: tables always seem to be booked. Bar staff are good but the place is very short staffed and you may need to wait a while.
Andorra bar
Pros: good drink selection, cosy
Cons: may be a bit small, can get smokey, not much sitting area. Maybe try Corazon for some more space.
Cana bar:
Pros: easy-ish to find. Surreal DJ
Cons: not a huge bar.... 20 people could be a squeeze. Surreal DJ. Some of the patrons (and bar staff) can be a bit colourful...

Thanks for the list. I'll take a look at them and get back to people in the next day on where we are set up.
If anyone else has suggestions, I'll still gladly take them.

Hi:
Do we have to do this on Friday? I missed the previous event as I was travelling. Unfortunately, I am not in Zurich until Friday night... Can we please please reschedule it to Saturday?

The Volkshaus has plenty of room, but most of it is standing only - tables are a bit thin on the ground given it's size. Reservations on a weekend are also likely to be a problem - but then again I've never tried to reserve there.

We had a poll a while back ( Weekend drinks ) that while most people don't care, those who care prefer Friday. If this is erroneous, we could change the night. And this definitely isn't the last time we do events like this.

Bling Bar on Neufrankengasse might be a good shout, although I'm not sure how loud it might or might not be on a weekend. www.bling-zuerich.ch
I'll be in Zug anyway |

Outback Lodge @ Stadelhofen - you can choose to stand near the bar or sit at the long tables without shouting over each other and its non-spicy chicken wings are the closest thing that I can find here to KFC. *smacks lips*
I hear that Cana Bar's DJ is apparently the oldest in Zurich. Went in there last weekend with some friends and I think we brought the average age in there down by at least 10 years - thats saying alot seeing that I am not that young. |

Thats all I have to say about that.
Vote Outback! |

Nothing says a good bar like good wings to me.

Enough space for some to sit and for others to stand and possibly mingle? Just wondering. Otherwise, it's gonna be impossible to find suitable places on the weekend. The more formal and organised we make it, the more difficult it will be on a Fri or Sat.
And as for Fri vs Sat, maybe go 2 Fridays then 1 Saturday to reflect the preferences and give everyone the opp??? Just thinking out loud.
Thanks for all the effort in getting this going.

Always the voice of reason, HashBrown (btw, your name makes me hungry). | Quote: | | | | | I thought we discussed originally that we don't care to to necessarily sit down? That'll determine where we end up going. | Quote: | | | | | And as for Fri vs Sat, maybe go 2 Fridays then 1 Saturday to reflect the preferences and give everyone the opp??? I'll let people know tomorrow where it's at.

I need recommendations again for this coming weekend's libations (vote here [Zurich] Official Drinks Night - Oct 30 or 31? to say which day it's going to be on). Did we hate Outback Lodge? Do we want some music? I think a fair amount of us (or was it just me?) liked to groove a little between drinks. Or do we want somewhere where we can talk and chill, like Corazon? Or do you want that Metal club on Langstrasse? Tell me, and I'll set it up again. If not, I get to choose. Who knows where that'll lead.
