(Sorry, it is in German, but if anyone wants me to translate, I am thinking it says something along the lines of, "Come taste wine on ships and get tipsy somewhere besides a bar. And you can order some and have it delivered too. Is good.")

to get p!ssed and end up spending a fortune like we did last year
a bit of advice, buy some wine from a stand as soon as you go in, get the pink slip, slot it in your guide back sticking out noticeably at the top, the vendors then see you're a buyer and get the better wines out for you

2 years ago, I was walking around tasting (a few of us had made a few purchases) and we got to a stand with quite nice wine.
The person selling the wine was reluctant to give us all a taste (4 of us), so we asked for 2. I made a point of pulling out my two slips for purchases, and suddenly, we were all tasting every wine on the shelf.

Phil: you need to pay an entrance fee.
We are not making it easy for you are we?
Quite often people go free with free vouchers that are given out. Usually from a friend of a friend in the office who can't make it that evening so it may be worth asking around.

illusion ! the wines are all the same. When going to any degustation of wines, I take on the most "leisure/worker" style clothing possible. You will not get paramount priority service, but the wine is the same really, the talks may even be more interesting as you are seen as an alternative to the so many "wannabe something" and few will see you as a "target". I however may take my two Coop receipts of last Saturday at Albisgüetli with me, which will show "them" that I already ordered !

Going in with a windburnt face, jeans and dirty fingernails gets the expensive stuff offered; they'll assume you're a grower and not bother with the hard sell.
Bless those poseurs who bring their own wine glasses with them...
