Fasnacht is coming up in Basel. For those of you who haven't experienced it before, it is a must see.

We have talked about making a photoclub event during these 3 days, but those who have seen Fasnacht before, know it is very crowded and it will be hard to keep up with a group on these nights.

So I just want to check out the interest and witch day/time you would prefer. The start of Fasnacht is 22. February at 4 a.m. Most of us get Carnival day off from work on Monday.

So option is to meet 3:30 am, or during the middle of the day on Monday, say around 11 or 12. Or take one evening, for example the last night, maybe around 8 then.

i'm up for it, as it might be my last chance to see a basel fasnacht (i've never been) 3.30 am? that might be a problem.i'd say from 10 am onwards is doable for me. thanks for organising

I'd also recommend the Liestal Chienbäse on the 21st evening.

We went to Liestal for the Chienbäse in the evening, went to Basel almost immediately after and hung around in Basel till the Fasnacht parades started. I'll probably be doing the same again this year, planning to head to Liestal to be there by 18:00.

While I'd like to see the early morning start of Fasnacht, I've never experienced it before and prefer the first time to be with my hubby.

Daytime Monday would probably work best for me otherwise.

Just Voted.. i have never seen this before and would be great to see it with some good company! 3:30 am it is!

This will be my first. 3:00am, my other half in tow, not a clue whats happening, whats the best place to shoot from, freezing cold, and then trying to follow a photoclub group...I think not. I opt for the afternoon next day.

One thing that may be worthy to keep in mind is that the street lights in Basel will be off during Morgenstreich and there will be no flash photography allowed in effort to keep from blinding everyone with the sudden bright lights.

Lunch time sounds good to me, when i fist arrived last year i just made it for Fastnacht and hadn't a clue what was going on. I ended up wandering around totally lost.

I would also like to go to Liestal so if possible can this be arranged as a group event (or if not can the people that are interested maybe meet in Basel and travel over together?)

Yeah I think I will just schedule the official event on Monday lunch time.

I have never been to fastnacht so would love to come monday lunch, however sorry if this is an ignorant question but what do you need to qualify for a photocub??? If i qualify then i look forward to it!!

We only make fun of those carrying a Canon.

thanks for starting the thread i got a bit wondering last week how it could be that the whole city is transofrm into a Fassnacht theatre, while the EF isn't speaking about it or planning something.

anyway, i would like to join, but as my brother is visiting the weekend and flying monday after lunch time, so that we can experience morgenstreich. Leaving me in the challenge to schedule it. Probably it will be bringing him to the airport, taking the 50 back, figuring out where you are and find my way through the crowd.

The Liestal looks like a nice addition. Thx, as i didn't know about it before.
