Meeting Point: Zermatt

Are you interested in joining me for a Heli skiing day in Zermatt ?

We will fly op to Monte Rosa in 4200 meter above sea level, and ski 16000 meter offpiste down to Zermatt in 1600 meter. Monte Rosa is Europes 2nd highest mountain, and we will be just 400 meter from the top.

Note: This is for REALLY good skiers only. you MUST be capable of doing parallel turns even in deep snow. The Air pressure in 4200 meter is just ca. 55% of the air pressure at sea level, so good physical condition is a must.
The price for this pleasure is CHF 380 per person, and this includes the fee for the mountain guide, and the mountain guides do speak english.

If you are interested, send a mail, with your phone number, so I can contact you in case of bad weather etc.

If you want to join, sign up no later than 10 march.

note: This is posted on glocals too. please do not sign up twice.

I will leave from Zürich 7.00, and arrive in Zermatt 10.14. We are supposed to be at the heliport 11.00, and fly ca. 11.30, and It will take ca. 4 hours.

Re: Heli Skiing II, Monte Rosa / Zermatt

They do not allow snowboards on the Monte Rosa tour.

Only Ski unfortunately, but they do advertise other tours, and heli snowboarding on request.

I got 2 mails from glocals members, who would have joined if snowboards were allowed, so it should be possible to fill a helicopter. I will speak to them again tomorrow (If i can reach them after skiing) and ask what deals they offer for snowboarders.

Re: Heli Skiing II, Monte Rosa / Zermatt

How many uplifts does the helicopter do? If Monte Rosa is 4200m and the height difference is 2800m, that's a lot of uplifts to get 16000m of descending.

Is there skinning involved somewhere in the middle?

I've been offered heliskiing trips before and they were in the region of 135CHF for the guide plus the cost of the helicopter which was something like 600+CHF split between the group for one uplift. 380CHF seems very cheap if there is 4-5 uplifts involved which there would need to be to get 16,000m.

EDIT: Ah... I realise now its 16km distance you cover, not the actual altitude descended.

yes, 16 km is the distance covered, and the altitude difference is 2600 meter. They have sent me a PDF File, which i can not attach unfortunately, but it does not mention skins, neither in requirements, nor what is provided by them, so I am quite certain, they are not needed.

Monte Rosa is actually 4634 meter, but they drop us off at ca. 4200 meter, where we will ski down to Zermatt via Furi, so that will be on the Gorner Gletscher, and thus should be downhill all the way.

I can email the pdf's i got if you pm your email address.

4 people are interested from Glocals, but have still not confirmed 100%, but will update tonight.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck, but if we can fit it in I may be able to go if I'm in the country!
