How bad would it suck if you weren't as good as you thought you were?
I would probably need to get some powder ski's as I have 170cm carving skis.
I am so tempted.

Brian. | | | | | Just my 2 cents, but if you have any doubt (and it sounds like you do) I would not even consider it. Sorry Doc, don't mean to discourage people and ruin the chance for you. I'd love to go the following weekend if you need a 4th attempt!

Brian. | | | | | I'd have loved doing this but the price is a little bit of a turn-off. After a pay-day which is next week I would look at it from different angle .
How wide are they and what is radius of your carving skiis, if I may ask? I think strong legs and technique will play more important role than type of skiis used. Having said that I wouldn't take my other Salomon racers 103V which have narrow and sharp tips. Prefferably twin-tips for free-riding would do the job |

I could never get my wife to do this and I work at heights so this would be a real kick in the ass. That is why I ask, If I F'up at work I fall and hang by my Fall Arrest Harness until someone comes and rescues me or I self rescue or I died from Static Blood Trauma.
Some times the risk is worth it. If you don't try you can't succeed.
THanks,
Brian.

There are worse thing to fall then powder, assuming you paid the 40 CH for REGA mountain rescue.
The thing is if you can't handle it, at best you ruin it for the rest of the group(slowing down limits number of potential runs) at worst you create a hazard for yourself and others.
Suggest you first try off-piste within a resort and an instructor. This way you will be able to get a feel for how capable you are without putting yourself in harm's way. Keep in mind the quoted altitude is quite high, which only makes matters more interesting.

They really suck off piste. At least it seems that way to me.

Brian. | | | | | Well that says about how effectively you can turn given picture below.
Mine are 15.4 radius and still carving skiis but they are relatively wide compare to the racers I'd used before and thus make the off-piste skiing better. Not as ideal as the wide twin-tips but slightly more use of quad muscles can make them work | | This user would like to thank jacek for this useful post: | |

Hi Brian,
If you are not sure, you are good enough, get lessons, until you are sure. Better safe than sorry. Call a ski school, and get a private lesson offpiste, and the teacher will be able to advise you, if it is a good idea or not.
-A 4th attempt is likely with the current weather forecast, but i call them thursday morning, and we'll see.
Doc.

Doc. | | | | | Doc would they move at all on their snowboard stance ? If you are a good boarder and bring poles for flat sections they still wont budge on it ? I have done Valley Blanche on a board and as long as you bring poles for the flat sections it was fine...
Just thought I would check in case they have had a change of heart.

Doc. | | | | | Sorry about the weather, but I would be in for the 4th attempt next weekend. Think I may exceed my ski budget this year by a small margin. |

Hi Mike,
I can't answer it. I guess the reason hey said "no snowboards", when I asked, is because it is too flat, but they do offer the option to rent a helicopter and do heli snowboarding without specifying which mountain, so it is possible, although not necessarily on Monte Rosa.
Because of my working hours, I can not call them tomorrow and ask, but their Phone number is 027-966 24 60.
I will be happy to call on thursday, if you can wait.
Regards, Doc.

Conditions are ok, but I could not get 3 people for tomorrow saturday. Are we enough, who would be up for it on sunday ? If 2 people sign up fast, we go sunday, otherwise postponed for next saturday.
I also asked re. Snowboard, and they do not allow Snowboards on Monte Rosa because of Crevasses, but snowboards are possible on another mountain, Alphubeljoch, skiing down to Täsch.
