Re: Züri Fäscht - 6-8 July 2007

can someone tell me a bit more about this, we were intending on going on our camping holiday on the 5th July until we were then told about the Züri Fäscht on the 6th 7th and 8th so we are now considering cutting our holiday short so we can go to this, is it worth it? what happens? I know there are stalls and fireworks but I don't know much else and I don't speak german to read the website.

Anyway any info would be greatlly appreciated to help us make our decision on what to do

Cheers
Nicky

It's a huge street party covering Bürkliplatz, Bellevue, Munsterplatz, Limmatquai with carnival rides, food stalls, live bands at night, light shows, etc.

Yes, definitely worth staying in town for. It only takes place every 3 years. Have fun!

That pub is such a weird idea. CHF40,000? Blimey. Can you bounce on it I wonder? Bouncy pub, beer, girls, mayhem

Gotta be under fireworks to really enjoy them. Just mind there'll be hundreds of thousands of other people too. Once they're over and you're up the hill, it gets a bit lonesome. Stay in the city and enjoy the atmosphere.

Nicky, one thing I miss about living in Frankfurt is that every year without fail there were somewhere between three and five major festivals. This happens all over Germany as well - they have festivals every summer in many towns. I'm not saying it never happens in Switzerland, but not in the same way and not very often.

Apart from the street parade (which is not really the same kind of festival) Zurich only has one fest, and it comes only once every three years.

Bottom line - don't miss it, or you'll be waiting another three years. It's a heck of a lot easier to get to than driving to Germany You can't read German? That's what you said last year!

Re: Züri Fäscht - 6-8 July 2007

Hi,

Because I unfortunately do not read German (still bought the program though), I was just wondering if there are any events that are definitely not to miss at Züri Fäscht?

Can one just wander around and see what's going on, or does it need to be planned out and scheduled?

I saw some of the preparations on Wednesday, and it looks like it will be amazing!

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott
Basically you should just wander around and stop and stare at (or take part in) whatever grabs your fancy. In the Tages Anzeiger today, "Zürich und Region" they have a map of the lake area showing which events will take place where. Tonight at 10.30 pm and tomorrow same time there'll be fireworks displays on the lake to classical music (live) and pop, all around the lake there are goodies to be eaten (check out along Mythenquai starting approx. at the Rentenanstalt and going towards Bellevue) and so on. Just move with the masses and you'll probably see most of what's going on.
Enjoy!

möpp - Thanks for the help! That's how I would prefer to see the event. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't miss out on anything major by not planning it out.

Thanks,
Scott

I understand that they will be playing music when the fireworks start (classical I believe) can anyone tell me where the orchestra is going to be!? Because that sounds amazing, surreal, WOW!!!

Down by the casino / lakeside there'll be a cool temporary bar and stage, with good tunes. Also a sneaky place to watch the fireworks from a different angle:
http://www.sporting.ch/?club93 (esp. the Reggae on Sunday )

'Clap your hands say yeah' are playing the openair stage at the Rote Fabrik on Sunday evening. Talking Heads meets the Flaming Lips. From 20.30:

Drink Beer, nod your head to rock bands doing dodgy covers in front of the Grossmuenster:

Chill out with the honies at Badi Enge:
http://www.seebadenge.ch/htm/content/events.htm

Rosenhof, traditionally (well, if you're Uncle Max, at least) the best place to bump uglies and get down to the sound of the street, guaranteed party mood:

Have fun, kidz

Uncle Max,

Thanks for the rundown of some of the major events/attractions. It's nice to know of a few places to check out.

I'd give you a "thank you," but I don't seem to see the button.

I thanked him for you

I am going on Saturday, although I hear the fireworks tonight will be accompanied by a live symphony orchestra.
