In case you didn't know it, that day is also the SlowUp day in Basel-Dreiland but it seems not to be really in the City so you should be okay.

In addition to the books that Begga is suggesting, the author also has a number quite informative, if slightly offbeat, videos on youtube.
You can find them here
By the way I can really recommend "Understanding Exposure" to anybody who is finding themselves struggling with Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO, and how you can use these settings creatively.

Hello,
I am in Schaffhausen, and have never done "photography" before. Yes, I took pictures, on vacation, etc, and do so now somewhat. But never had a good camera for photography =) I still do not. I only have some digital small camera, good for vacation etc...
I have always been interested in photography, and since I have just moved to Switzerland, and am trying to get to know people, I figure taking this up, may be a good time to do so!
So are you open to complete newbies? Not sure if I will make it the 19th, since I am not sure I will have a camera by then...
I am actually moving into a flat this week, and have to dish out some Money for furniture - yay....
Looking forward to hopefully joining sometime if I am welcome
And any suggestions on a decent camera and accessories for a beginner would be great. (I will definitely look into getting the books mentioned at the top of the thread)
Thanks!
Ernie

Hi Ernie
You are very welcome to come over and join us, bring whatever camera you have, as i was told its not about the camera its about the composition.
I would even recommend that you come to one of the meetings, there you will meet people with "canon" and "nikkon" and others so you can see what the different cameras are like before spending a lot of money on a DLSR etc.
Hope to see you on the 19th if you can make it.
Phil

Phil | | | | | Hello Phil,
Well I think I will probably make it - just may have to keep my little digital camera hidden so I do not get laughed at =) Thanks for the response!! =)

When you get off the tram you will see a street (Streitgasse) leading off to the right from the front of the square (opposite the end of the tram stop - it goes past a Coop Pronto that you should be able to see from the tram stop).
Go to the end of this street and turn right onto the main shopping street (Freiestrasse). Starbucks is about 50m up, on your left. The main seating area is downstairs.
P.S. Don't use Papa Joes or Des Arts from this map as a landmark. They aren't where they are shown on the map.

I had this Starbucks in mind.
Take tram 8, 11 or 2 from SBB to Bankverein and it is one minuet walk from there.

Though this afternoon I did notice that you can actually see Starbucks from the BV tramstop, so it might have been easier your way.
It'll get him there |

If you get off at Bankverein head down the side of the Credit Suisse bank and you cannot miss starbucks on the right hand side.
If you are unsure i am coming past the SBB anyway so PM if you want to meet there.

I've got some PMs from people who are new in this hobby and don't know much about their camera or photography in general.
So I've put together few notes for beginners to keep in mind.
It would be good to know approximately how many people think they will be needing them so I can have enough but not too many (let's spare the rainforests ). It would be good if you could mention it with your RSVP and also type of camera. I can help the Nikon users out and I'm sure some of the loosers.... oh I mean the Canon gentlemen can help the Canon users out
Bare in mind though, that this is not a free photography class. There will be no professional teachers. We are all hobbiest who want to share our hobby with other hobbiest and learn from each other and have some good time.
