Re: Halloween

I will celebrate Aussie day, will go on a diat right now so i look great when i run around drunk and naked. Then again its to cold to be naked.
for real though. I`m keeping with this tradition because it is important to my husband! I do understand if ppl do not want to be bothered! And I do not agree that the kids that do not get treats spray the house or TP it etc.!
I thought if other Americans go trick or treat in their neighborhood they may not mind if we tag along. I don`t think it would be a great idea to just go throughout ZH and knock on everyones door, that is silly!
Plus it really is a holiday for children and how cute are they when they are all dressed up and come to your house with a big shy smile on their face asking for candy..aaahhh. Warms your heart! NO?? Ok!! I understand

Re: Halloween

Yes the american women club does offer a trick or treat event. You have to be a member and the cost is Fr.175 a year. That unfortunatly is a bit to much for me for just a once a year outing with them. However, they have some great "things" going on!!

Re: Halloween

We enjoy CH traditions especially sechsilüüte, Samichlaus, fasnacht and I think its absolutly lovely! the Gemeinschafts Zentrum in my neighborhood will have special cultural evenings where one can learn about other countries foods and tradtions, I find that quite fascinating (sorry spelling no so good..lol) having sad that, these events are not forced upon you I get it! However, this being the EF I only hoped to get some input of familys that may want to have a gathering or as someone suggested just a party where we quiatly without disturbing anyone or causing a scene, could get together to enjoy this silly tradtion and have our kids (and yes maybe ourself) dress up and eat to much candy

Re: Halloween

Well this is what we decided after reading all the posts...hhhmmm..ready??
Ok Halloween/Trick or treat is a tradition that may never "catch on" here in ZH/CH! Why? Its not a CH tradition..dduuhh, and it is anoying when ppl. knock on your door every 2min.! It is unpleasant getting your house TP`d or finding shaving cream in your mailbox the next day because you a)did not answer the door or worse b) you did and had no candy!! As well as it is not safe anymore having your little ones running through the streets and knocking on strangers homes! Who needs all this candy anyway? Ok so stop selling all this Halloween "crap" then , yes, thanks!!
THEREFORE, we are warning our neighbors that we are coming to knock on their door on the 31st at a specific time and if they wish they may answer and give us something for showing off our cute son in his "go diego go" outfit!
THEN next year I will throw a pumpkin carving / halloween bash for big and small and will post it on the EF and if you or someone you know would like to come and have fun excellent! It`s a win win situation!! WE get to keep our tradition and we will not bother anyone!! How does that sound?
Thank you for all your suggestions, questions, input etc. you all rock!! If you would like an invite for next year please contact me via a PM and we will send you one
OVER and OUT --
