I live close to Milchbuck in Zurich, and lately I have been doing a little more road biking... I like flattish routes of between 45 mins and 4 hours.
For me, door to door around the lake is about 75km and 3.5 hours.
For a very quick blast, I head down Wehntalerstrasse and loop around the Katzensee, or loop the other way and visit the airport, coming back through oerlikon.
I have searched and read many of the other threads on cycling... but i would like to know what other suggestions you have for trips within my timeframe?
Preferably not too hilly, i prefer to just make progress and have never been much of a hillseeker.
I've just started doing longer rides and found the site below very useful, especially the map and the day excursions.
When I first looked at the map facility I didn't think much of it, but now I use it to plan my route. For example, today I used it to plan a round trip from Winterthur to Rheinfall using the 45, 26 and 86.
The veloland website is great. The routes are usually on quiet roads without too much traffic (e.g. farm service roads, small village roads) or roads with proper cycle lanes and are usually very scenic.
From Milchbuck you could head through Oerlikon and then south-east behind the Zürichberg towards the Greifensee or Pfäffikersee and explore the area around there - it's not too hilly there until you get further south. The Greifensee has a designated cycle lane, on the pavement, pretty much all the way around as far as I can tell.
Another option is to head out north, north-west e.g. via the Katzensee or Kloten and continue untill you get to the Rhein. You can then follow the river a little way and then loop back to Zürich via a different route. You can very quickly get away from the traffic and into the little villages so also very attractive. There are hills, but gentle rolling ones, nothing major.
Have fun.
