klein matterhorn hut?

Hello,
I am looking for info about hut on Klein Matterhorn. Some sources say there is one, but I can't google anything useful, some sources say there are just plans for new one.
Does anybody visited it there, has any contact, website or anything else?
Thank you

Re: klein matterhorn hut?

I think there is maybe a restaurant or at least some kind of buvette, but no hut.

Are you thinking of the Rifugio Teodulo, which is at the top of the pass below the Klein Matterhorn?

Re: klein matterhorn hut?

There is an absolutely swanky hut since 2-3 years, located one floor below the restaurant; strangely many of the Swiss also don't know about it. I have stayed there about 7-8 nights over 3-4 mountaineering trips; by far the most comfortable hut I have stayed in. E.g. carry 2 fr coin for 3-4 mins of HOT showers at ~3800m altitude (not kidding, there is a shower room!).

Tips:
  • This one is seriously high, I have rarely gotten sleep there, but it is individual, my son who had the same amount of acclimatization managed to sleep blissfully.
  • it is comparatively less crowded, I have often found the hall all for ourselves. I haven't done anything of that sort, but depending on who you go with, you might want to do something memorable in the privacy at 3800+m
  • I carry as much drinking water as possible

Re: klein matterhorn hut?

the higher the better for me, I am looking for easy acclimatisation for trek to kilimanjaro (5900m, not ideal I know, but too late for any bigger plans). I heard there is also one easy above-4000m peak doable from Saas Fee, with possibility to hire a guide (for 250 CHF?) thats doable in 1 day... any info on that?

I think it is a perfect one for acclimitization; you can also solo the Breithorn normal route as well (just talk to the local guides before you do) or you can rope up with any willing team, there will be well-trodden path and is as safe as alpine tours can be. You can consider hiking up part or all the way up to Klien Matterhorn from Zermatt (again, consult the Gandegg hut warden before crossing theodulpass alone), because not just sleeping at altitude but gradual progression and exerting at altitude are also important.

For a more interesting (but still solo-able scramble), I think you mean Lagginhorn in Saas Fee.

When are your timelines? I am in fact planning to visit the Alps 14-18 July...and might post an ad if my regular partners can't fill in the dates.
