Hi everybody!!

I'm new in Lausanne area and I would like to know your opinions about the swimming pools available here. I love swimming and I wonder if there is a good swimming pool and what it's more important a swimming pool not crowded, you know...

Digressing a bit - but just saw a picture of the open air swimming pool built between rocks, 70m long, at Les Marécottes, about 1 hour from Lausanne. Now that would be worth the travel it seems.

Do you want inside or outside? Bellerive Plage is a huge complex with numerous swimming pools/locations. There is even a obstacle course water park in the lake. Also has diving platforms. Pully Plage is also nice. Bus 47 and 8 will take you there.

As for the swimming hole in Les Marecottes, we went there last year and had a lot of fun. The kids loved it. Really a unique experience. It is right there were the little zoo is.

If you're looking more for the lake, I can _highly_ recommend that you enjoy the various beach areas in between Morges and St. Sulpice. I would walk on that nearly 2-3 times per week last summer and it was utterly delightful. It's much less crowded and more pretty than some of the more central swimming places in Lausanne that have been mentioned (although they are good for central locations). Check out the options around there in google earth, but it truly is delightful.

I probably shouldn't be spoiling such a lovely secret, but as we're not based out of Vaud anymore, I feel happy to share!

Re: Any good swimming pool in Lausanne area?

In the greater Lausanne we are very fortunate to have some great piscines.

Mon Repos has a dedicated pool for doing laps in lanes.

Pully and Bellerive plages are great, with their toes in the Lac Leman. Bellerive's building is really cool architecture from the mid- 1930's (Marc Piccard, architect).

Re: Any good swimming pool in Lausanne area?

Thank you everybody,

Monday afternoon I tried Mon Repos swimming pool. The swimming pool is wonderful but it's real a mess Nobody there respect the levels so there are people who swim fast swimming with people who swim slow...

Anyway I've seen that it is closed from 7th July to 26th August so I think I will try swim outdoors.

About swimming in the lake I'm not really sure. I get nervous when the water is dark and I cannot see what I have around me :S (yes, I should probably thank Mr. Spielberg and his "Jaws").

I will keep updated the post with my next try

Have a nice day!
M.G

Re: Any good swimming pool in Lausanne area?

I find it quite sad, that olympic city like Lausanne doesn't have an OLYMPIC pool (50m) that is usable for whole year. Remember Zurich had a lot of those all around the place. It makes a big difference for me when I want to swim in a lane, constant turning in 25m gets annoying.
Lake is safe, OK, don't worry. Biggest fishes I saw were like 15 cm big. There are much bigger ones, but they don't come close and definitely don't bite (just don't swim naked )
