Zurich Hurling Team

As some of you know from my posts my husband helps to run Zurich's hurling team: Inneoin. Yesterday in Luxembourg the team beacame champions of Europe for the third year in a row No doubt over the next couple of weeks they will be out in Zurich celebrating so if you see them be sure to say Hi (they will all be wearing their 3-in-a-row polo shirts so you can't miss them!).

I've got to ask. What is a hurling team?

The only thing I can think of (and is what I thought when I saw your post topic) was drinking a bit much and then purging it....if you know what I mean

The drinking normally starts when the tournament has finished and that type of hurling may follow

It's actually an Irish team sport, the second fastest land based sport after Ice Hockey. The team website with a bit more information is here http://www.hurling.ch/

I love hurling. Coolest, most fast paced sport ever. I happened to be in Cork a couple of years ago for the finals between County Cork and County Kilkenny. Awesome. I love watching this sport unlike any other.

Curling; the bane of a hurlers life. The number of conversations I've heard that go like this:

I play Hurling.

Curling?

No, Hurling.

Don't you mean curling??

AAArrrggghhhhh.

There will be a Hurling tournament on in Uster, just outside of Zurich in June for you all to come along to see what all the fuss is about. Once the details have been finalised I'll post the info in the events section.

Arf...Curling is the kind of sport you expect to be popular in Switzerland, after all it involved maniacal broom sweeping

Hurling is fun, nothing short of legalised ultra-violence on a pitch, ice hockey looks tame in comparison (and anyone who saw a body-check against the band in a hockey game knows how rought that sport is )

In one match that has gone the way of legend 17 hurleys were broken during a match between Zurich & Munich .

Exactly, it's the Irish version of shinty. There is also a mixed rules game that mixes the two. It's a pity you are going to be down in the French part as my husband is trying to put together a youth team.

No, the sticks, ball & method of play are completely different. In hurling you can carry the ball, bring the stick above waist height, the list goes on...

Re: Zurich Hurling Team

Hi
Lou if you know of any clubs near Lausanne let me know please. We live in real shinty country here and I love seeing a good game. Last year we had the Scottsih Shinty Championship in town it was great fun.
