Lac du Joux - ice skating

Does anyone know when the Lac du Joux will be open for ice skating?
Many thanks!

Re: Lac du Joux - ice skating

Given that it's actually quite mild at the moment I guess it won't be open for a while.
You can find daily updates here. http://www.myvalleedejoux.ch/fr/page..._myswitzerland

The Lac de Joux is not frozen today.

You click on the snowflake symbol on the top line of icons. It then gives you all the snow conditions and the bottom line says ?Le Lac de Joux n'est pas glacé' Bonne année 2013.

I guess when it's frozen they will give more precise details about the state of the ice.

Re: Lac du Joux - ice skating

Neither Lac de Joux nor Lac des Taillères are ok for skating this winter. It's been much too warm, and the ice is 'rotten' and unsafe. It was the Fête du Froid at Lac des Taillères last week-end- to celebrate the cold record there,
-41.8 some years back- but it was raining and about 0C, so a bit of a flop.

You can get there easily by train from either Geneva or Neuchatel.

Re: Lac du Joux - ice skating

it's easy by train. I used to do that trip quite often these last 3 months....

It's a beautiful place, go there, not only to ice skating but also for all the other things you can do there.

Re: Lac du Joux - ice skating

Not sure if this has copied properly from facebook as RTS archive. This is how I grew up here in the 50s, when we had 'proper' winters- for our family at Lac de Taillères/La Brévine- our sledges tied at the back of my dad's 2CV on long ropes, and him driving full pelt on the lake and making hand-break turns on the ice- brilliant fun

Sadly neither lake open for skating now. It was minus 29C the other night at La Brévine, but much too warm overall. In 87, the record cold temperature at la B was recorded as minus 41.2 (or 41.8- can't remember)

Arggh, it didn't copy. Perhaps someone clever like Adrian can pick it up from my FB page and copy- an old RTS documentary about what we used to get up to at lac de Joux and Lac des Taillères in Ye Goode Olde Days
