Ski rental around Basel Area

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good and preferrably cheap place to rent skis for kids for the season in the Basel Area? Or is there a place in neighboring Germany?

I know SportXX has Junior Skis+Boots+Poles for CHF 190 Junior and CHF 130 for Kids. Is that a good offer?

Thanks

Most people I know here rent from http://www.sportshopkarrer.ch/ in Laufen. Looks like chf86 (+20 if you need a helmet) for kids stuff for the season, 168 for juniors or adults. More importantly, I've only ever heard good things about then wrt quality and service.

Someone I know who is renting ski gear for their kids there told me last night that you hold onto the gear you rent till next season and then when trade it in for the next size up and rent from them again for another season you get 40% off.

Obviously check with them but if the case, sounds like a pretty good deal.

Yep, that's where we go now for the 5th year in a row. Note that you can actually choose different categories, which are reflected in the price. The bigger the kids, the more expensive as well. If you rent brand new equipment, it is obviously the most expensive.

This season, for skis, boots, sticks, and helmets for my 4 kids, the oldest two (both 10y/o) renting brand new boots and skis, in total it was around 700 CHF for the whole season.

We rented from Athletikum (Dreispitz) while the kids were still growing. It always seemed reasonably priced, quick and friendly service, and easy to get to.

My son and I rented skis from Sport Shop Karrer in Laufen recommended to us
by our landlord. For my 12 year old I paid 110 CHF, for me was a little over
200 CHF for boots, skis and poles.

Re: Ski rental around Basel Area

I definitely suggest Karrer in Laufen. If you like the ski/snowboard or the shoe, you can buy them next year. They discount the rent price from the sales price.
