Carpooling: Skiing Engelberg and other fun stuff

Hi,

I am planning to go as often as possible to Engelberg this winter (mainly weekends). I can offer seats in my car or take one. I am going from Zug/Cham.

I have a year pass for Engelberg and plan to go on both good days and in less good conditions. Full days or half days are fine too. We can just share the ride or maybe even do some runs together. I am no expert.

I have telemark, touring skis, XC (skate & nordic), snowboard and soon free-ride skis.

My intention was to build a contact list for people going to Engelberg or simply explorer other parts of CH together. PM me for phone/email exchange.

Traverse: One of two ways to stop while skiing. Tree: The other method.
/KG

Happy to join in. I am in Hirzel and also have an Engelberg pass.

Last year I improved on and began off piste with Ace1 (highly recommended if anyone is looking for a ski instructor in Engelberg) and this year want to do more. The occasional x-c ski might also be on the agenda.

Hello,

I did some ski classes in EngelBerg (with Ace1 ofcourse) last year and will be doing it again this year. Please include me in your list and let me know when you plan to go. Perhaps we can do some skiing together or atleast share the ride. gl and hf.

Your name sounds familiar. Perhaps we've met? Did you meet any tall brownie guy with a mustache last year?

Now I'm puzzled, can't quite put a name or face to the user name. Ah, hang on, did you team up by coincidence with another Indian guy and perhaps one other? Two or three days at Klostermatte? If so I doubt you meet Mr fish.

You coming back for some more lessons any time soon?

Yup that was me. The guy who couldn't 'bend' his knees The 3rd guy was a Romanian at that time and I assumed it was Mr. Fish. Nvm.
I've registered again with Prime two weeks ago and they said they'll let me know if a group could be formed. Still waiting...

Re: Carpooling: Skiing Engelberg and other fun stuff

hi guys,

I plan to be in Engelberg coming Friday morning till Sunday eve, by myself, looking to ski with a group. Any tips?

Open to go skiing with a group or a class. I am a good skier, although not born on a mountain and spend way too much time in offices! Have potentially a freeride day organized on Saturday with a mountainguide, will learn more on Friday. Open to your suggestions.

Looking forward to connect!

Thanks

Jerome

Re: Carpooling: Skiing Engelberg and other fun stuff

What is a reasonable time to aim for arrival at Engelberg or what is the best time to leave the Zug area on weekends? Does it get very crowded?

I am still debating if it is worth it renting something there vs. driving there and back.

This will be our first winter here so really no clue.

Traffic isn't usually bad of a morning (I'm told) so around 45 minutes drive should be easily doable from Zug. There used to be an issue with lift queues on busy/holiday weekends, but the fancy new fast gondola opening in December should fix that.

I should be back skiing by January following recent surgery but may still be needing to take it gently, so could be up for skiing with others from here in a non-professional capacity. Also will probably be longer until I get back on telemarks, but hopefully will be up for teaching later on in the season.

Engelberg is just about the only resort in Switzerland where I wouldn't consider getting an apartment, living in Zug (as I do). The drive is quite short (50-55 mins, typically - be aware that the route between here and there is littered with speed cams) and the train is not a bad option either - switch in Luzern, train takes you to town a short walk or (if you prefer) bus ride to the gondola in a total of less than 90 minutes.

Gawd, I hope so. That line was killer if you showed up after about 8:10 in the morning. It will still have the reputation as the only place in Switzerland that can't figure out how to groom their slopes, but at least I'll be able to get up there quicker when there's fresh stuff on the ground.
