Hi Paras,

First, welcome to the forum and to the great city of Zürich!

I recently learned to swim and can highly recommend Schwimmschule Hermann. Our classes are small and are very diverse: I've met Brazillian, Kenyan, American, German, Swiss thus far. We do seem to have many more women than men though. Our instructor is Herr Herrmann, a German swim master who has been teaching a long time.

That said, I do ask a lot of questions, and some of the best learning has been from them. He does look after us, checking our technique one at a time, and is incredibly encouraging. I prefer this style as I was learning from scratch, not improving. So maybe your coach's style just isn't a good fit for you, and that's ok. But at least try to ask some questions and see if you get the attention you need. If not, I'd advise changing. You're paying for instruction and should get it in the form that you learn best from.

Good luck!
Thank you sir. She has pretty much the same style as Herr Herrmann for white dudes. I am the only one at loss here. Maybe something special with swiss girls.

@cannut: If you said that to make me feel better, thanks man. But if it's true and you are in same boat as me, you have some serious problem dude :P
But when you have paid 300 bucks, wasted a month and half and still learnt nothing, '22 and blond' is not fun any more, with or without attire; especially when she is a racist *****

Generation thing perhaps. They threw me out of the rowing boat in the middle of Lake Neuchâtel- I swam. They put me on skis- I skied... no geniuses- that is just the way it was, for all of us honest. Same for skating, riding a bike, then a moped at 14, and so much more. You either learnt very quickly and became very good, or you were put off for life.

Can you describe the behaviour, etc, that clearly makes her a racist, please, just so we get a bet picture of what is going on here? Are lessons taught in German? Anmd if so, how good is your German?

No sack, no stones, lol, dad and 2 big brothers ready to jump in in case it didn't work- but in most instances, it did work.

BTW did anyone ever had lessons in riding a bike? And yet, it is a very difficult skill in many ways. I had to learn riding through the frame of my dad's and brother's bikes, all lopsided. Eventually, it clicked... many bruises and cuts along the way.

Hi Paras,

Don't mind me saying but I think your disappointment is getting into your head. I'm not sure if there is any kind of racism involved here. Some people are just not comfortable with other person irrespective of their colour or race. You have to just accept that and move on. I've been through similar scenarios too.
Swiss girls are generally nice, well most of them. It's unfortunate that your first encounter was with a not so nice one. But if there are strong reasons for you to believe that you are specially treated unfairly by her, I'd suggest you to contact her institute. And if you don't get help even there, I'd suggest to put up a review of your experience with the name of the institute along with the name of the instructor on various forums, so any one else is warned of facing similar scenarios. No one likes a negative publicity.

And again I'll say make most of this experience, you'll at least learn something from her. It won't be a complete waste. Be nice and enjoy the water.

Yes sir you are right. I went over board with my frustation. She maybe is not a racist just not sure of a black guy. I will simply change my institute. My apologies to all here. Thanks for all the good advice too.

Hi, I tried to PM you but you seem to have it disabled....

I did some work a couple of years ago with some African students, who had come to Switzerland for a sports seminar.

While they were awesome with all of the other sports, swimming was a challenge for them. We persevered and in the end I sent them away with some basic skills, I only had them for 5 lessons.

I am teaching in Kilchberg, and have classes with beginners to advanced swimmers, from every continent.

Please get in touch with me if you think I can help you.

Hi Anil,

I can't tell you it will be easy, but if you really want to learn it's possible. I have had several beginner students who came to me around that age. They can all swim now, some taking longer to learn than others.

You're black and you want to learn how to swim? You do realise this is utter madness don't you? It's like a white guy trying to learn how to dance. Won't happen. How about you take up a hobby that better matches your racial profile, like rap music?

Of course you are Tom, because we would expect nothing less than for you to be a self-taught ski racing champion... because you're clearly simply the best at everything. As for swimming... I imagine you are also part fish and have evolved beyond the limitations of your inferior fellow man and have adapted gills.

If what you write on a daily basis on this forum is true, then you're just simply amazing at everything you do. A perfect and flawless specimen. Or...

...an epic blowhard who posts 90% bollocks with a desperate need to make himself look good on the interwebs. Only time will tell.
