Yeah, I'd love to meet this guy and see if he's the specky tw@t I think him to be.
I just can't help but think that no confident and successful male worth his salt would feel the need to stay online bragging about himself in such a way to a load of faceless randoms...

Either that or he is the forums most successful troll.

Well, my parents probably taught me something about swimming, but not that I can remember.

I'm a self taught driver. The other drivers always honk at me to show how awesome I am. Who needs stupid lessons?

That's nothing.
I taught myself to run. Dogs and their walkers stop in mid stride, get out of my way and stare in wonder.

They don't clap, as yet.

Re: Problems in swimming lessons :((

I taught myself to breathe. I am a champion at long distance staring and I can bend my both my thumbs 90 degrees outwards.

Bask in the sheer awesomeness radiating from me!

Also, I always thought Tom's posts are severely tongue in cheek and I'm surprised at some seasoned veterans who haven't caught on to this. Unless the responses are so meta that I am the one not getting the joke.

Finally, technique is incredibly important in swimming and while you can go a long way with just pure endurance, proper technique is not easy to learn without tutoring. It's like playing squash or tennis. Any amateur can hit the ball hard, but it will mostly be the wrong technique (e.g. off center and/or wrong angle) which will result in low precision and unnecessarily high energy usage. It takes a lot of training to develop the fine motor skills and technique.

Ninja edit: i-b-deborah, I sometimes go to the swimming pool in kilchberg! It is awesome and very good quality (IMO). If you ever saw a dude flailing by a lot and being inexplicably (and hilariously) awful at jumping in from the plank, it was probably me.

Sadly for all the good, that is how switzerland can be sometimes. I'm not white either and encounter these kind of attitudes in all kinds of subtle ways. Completely off topic but an example is having empty seats next to me in rush-hour on crowded commuter trains or trams. #morespaceforme

Don't give up on swimming though! I learnt front-crawl here - you will struggle to find a country with better swim facilities! took me best part of 2 years on and off - but managed to crawl 3km non-stop last summer from barely being able to crawl 25m when i started!!

Good luck and you are not alone!

Hmmm. I'm white, English and dashingly handsome, and that happens to me too (on the rare occasions I visit the Big City).

Maybe - I dunno - but maybe we non-Swiss give off some kind of message with our body language that puts the locals off?

Sorry about that sir. I am in my 30s so are the other 2 guys. The instructor is female, seems young about 21-22, is white, probably swiss. The other two guys are white, I'm not.
That's all the detail I can give. Sorry can't give the name of institute.

@Cage : Thank you sir. But I am a male, the instructor is female.

Maybe the other two guys are just much better looking than you.... why make it a race/racism issue?

I believe it is a left leaner vs right leaner kind of secret code. I'm not aware of at technique to "train" the orientation so us foreigners just have to work with what we were born with.

You're black and you want to learn how to swim? You do realise this is utter madness don't you? It's like a white guy trying to learn how to dance. Won't happen. How about you take up a hobby that better matches your racial profile, like rap music?
