Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

Hello,
We are moving to Fribourg in August for the upcoming academic year. We are planning/hoping to live in central Fribourg. Both of my sons (ages 9 & 11) play soccer here in the U.S. in a club, almost year-round. Practices are twice a week with a game or two on the weekends and several tournaments. My 11 year old will want to continue to play in a football club in Fribourg. Can anyone recommend some clubs? And how do tryouts work? We won't arrive until August 15, which for our club here would be "too late" to make the first team. (I don't care if he's on the highest level team per se, but I would like him to be at approximately the same level of skill as his teammates).

Also, what are approximate costs for such a club? Here in the U.S., these clubs have become very expensive! I am hoping it may be one of the few categories that are less expensive in CH

Thank you for any guidance!

Have no idea how any of it works (hopefully someone else can help you there) - but there are plenty of clubs in Fribourg.
Here's a list with links:

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I had come across that list and had clicked on some of the links, but I can't really tell the difference in levels/"seriousness" of the different football clubs, and I never did come across any pricing or tryout process. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!

My youngest daughter plays for FC Villars in Villars-sur-Glāne. It has quite a well-organised structure from young kids up to senior men's and women's teams.

Re: Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

Here's the link to the Fribourg Football website.
There may be some helpful info (but can't guarantee it).

http://www.football.ch/aff/fr/Associ...-football.aspx

As the above poster, I also have a daughter who plays, but as she is mid-teens, she plays for a girls only team (where my knowledge lies).
Up until secondary school age, teams can be mixed and are village, not school teams. For the city it would be organised within each school district, but still separate (usually) from the school.

Thank you both for your replies. We are hoping to live in Central F'bourg, but the FC Villars seems like the type of club my 11 year old would enjoy. I assume there are others like this; can you tell me what the tryout process is for this type of club? (for example, for ours here in Michigan, tryouts are in mid-July, and teams are decided at that time)... also, can you please give me an idea of how much the fees are for this?

Thank you!

Re: Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

Here are the rules for age groups for the Fribourg Football Club:

http://www.football.ch/aff/fr/Portal..._2014-15_f.pdf

And here is the home page for junior players in the AFF = Association fribourgeoise de football: http://www.football.ch/aff/fr/Associ...niors-AFF.aspx

So, depending on what year he is born, your son would be either a D or an E although they can move up, according to this document.

There is also FC Central down in the Old Town, but I have no info on their infrastructure etc. their website doesn't give much information.
I'm not sure when Villars do their selection, I'll have to check with my daughter, and for fees too.

Re: Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

OK, spoke to my daughter; she said they didn't have trials as such, but if your son rocks up to training and is any good, he'll likely get to play. Subs are 150.- per year (she thinks) and he'd have to buy a passport for a one-off fee of 100.- before he can play for any club.

I was down there on Weds pm - the girls' team was short a goalie and daughter was asked to sub for a match.

There was loads going on - different age groups training with coaches. However, Weds pm is no school for primary school kids, so there were loads around.

The only negative is that there is only one pitch for everything - training of different groups - and matches; whereas VsG has several play and training pitches.

But if your (OP) preferred location is in the old town then Central is obviously much more convenient .

Re: Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

Very helpful; thank you. I guess we will just wait and see where we end up (as stated, aiming for old town, but we may have to be flexible). This all sounds MUCH better than our current soccer club, which is rigid and expensive (but good instruction and competition, and the kids enjoy it). I keep thinking this will be one of very few areas we will save money, but I know we will make up for it in skiing expenditures

Re: Youth football/soccer club in Fribourg

My 11 year old son has been playing football in Fribourg for nearly 4 years and the official site is http://www.footsarine.ch/ if you click on the clubs button you will see all the contacts for, central Fribourg the contact site is:
www.fc-central.ch
When you've found a place conact them and they will give you all the necessary advice. Btw the season starts end of August, coincides with the school year.
