Bike Sellers Zurich

My girlfriend will move to Zurich shortly and we are keen to take up cycling. Can anyone recommend from experience a trusted bike seller in Zurich? It can be new or second hand. We are not serious cyclists, it would be more for leisure to begin with.

Re: Bike Sellers Zurich

Try Velo Elsener if you're interested in Specialized bikes but be prepared to pay Swiss prices.

Some German vendors will ship you bikes online -- which may end up being cheaper than buying one locally. But I highly suggest that you make sure your bike is properly fitted -- esp. if you plan to buy a road bike.

Try velomaerkte.ch
they dont do secondhand anymore, but you can still find something new for a reasonable price.

wiggle.co.uk

free shipping. Local prices - which I assume means tax is being handled.

Anyone done it?

Re: Bike Sellers Zurich

I get a lot of bike stuff from Wiggle, including a couple of bikes over the last few years. They deduct UK VAT at their end, but you are responsible for Swiss VAT when it arrives here plus import charges. This is normally 8% of the cost, plus about CHF20-40 for the courriers charges. If it is a small parcel it comes with the Post, and you have to be the tax on delivery. Larger parcels come with DHL and you get a bill from them a week or so after delivery.

Given the crazy shop prices here, as long as you are spending roughly GBP 150 or more you should be comfortably saving money.
