Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

i have three children and was lightest about 2 years after each birth. Breastfeeding helped probably for the first 3-6 months, but after that it was just slow progression...

i eat more when I am tired.... Tiredness is a pretty normal state with small children in the household...

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

I wish i was closer as on similar road at the moment a mission to loose the baby weight... I have started to do slimming world plan as this allows you to eat lots of the good stuff and still a little of the bad stuff so you never have to say no to yourself and it trains you to eat better in the long term. I have lost over 1/2 stone in 3 weeks. ( but i did drink too much coke and eat too much cake ) then i walk 1-2 times a week for an hour pushing buggy in the forest up and down some hills this is helping loose the inches..
Good luck

You don't consider yourself a sportswoman, but do you enjoy music and/or dancing? I've many friends who found their fitness friend in classes like Jazzercise, Dancefusion etc. Anything that gets you moving and feeling happy will boost your metabolism.

For many woman the biggest trap is finding themselves at home more than usual opening the fridge more than usual as well as helping young children learn to eat and feed themselves.

This is the perfect time of year to get outside and go for long walks w/pushchair

It's been pretty clear for some time now that although exercise is really beneficial for health in general and everyone should take regular exercise, if you do the sums, it's not really going to help you lose weight.

That's going to be almost entirely down to what, and how much you eat (and drink).

I'm not a woman but I do know what little you actually need to eat to enable you to take hours of hard exercise.

True, but losing weight is often what many females think of first, when actually general good health would be a better goal. Regardless if one is underweight, ideal weight or overweight, if one doesn't move a bit, the decline in health and general fitness past age 40 will usually be more steep and slippery.

My best marathon time was as a mom to a 2+ yr old with number two on the way, but that was only because I didn't see pregnancy and motherhood as a hindrance to my normal activities. There is a certain mindset that sees gainweight as an inevitable to motherhood - it doesn't have to be. Adding exercise might not cause weightloss but it usually aids sanity for any parent of young children. Like it or not, they ARE going to move around and being able to keep up is a good place to start.

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

Hi all,
Since three weeks, I started changing my diet : eating normally at breakfast and lunch but reducing portions for dinner. It works! A bit difficult because habits are strong but I am satisfied.
2 kilos in 3 weeks...small changes in long term :-)
Hope to maintain this rhythm till the end of the year and loose between 10 to 15 kilos without pills or strong diet.

Respect for your discipline. I find calorie restriction works short term but it isn't going to keep your weight down on the long run. What kinds of foods do you eat? As a new Mom (esp if you're breastfeeding) you might want to consider a high carb, ideally clean diet (e.g. not too many animal products, instead opting for vegetables and fruit) that boosts your metabolism and keeps your energy levels up. Also as others have pointed out, exercise is important but no need to do it excessively.. just find something you enjoy. Biking is great for most people Have you considered seeing a specialist to give you an optimized diet plan?

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

Just changing your diet is a good way to start losing weight. So reducing the calories, eating less fat, more good carbohydrates and protein will have a positive affect on your body, but also require a good will power.
Starting to increase your daily burn of calories will help you much more than just eating healthy. Try to start some excercises like swimming, nordic walking, cycling or running, as well. For these sports you neighter need to buy any expensive equipment and you can do it mostly anywhere at any time. If you feel like hardly being able to motivate yourself, ask your family and friends to join you and meet once or twice a week. This will help you and the others to stay motivated.

Losing weight is easier than you think Start today and within a few days you'll see the differences in the mirror wich even motivates you for more to come

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

Well in the German speaking part of CH I know of various classes for mums post pregnancy. For instance the non profit PEBS runs Buggyfit classes at various locations for only 8CHF per class plus they offer Nordic Walking with Child in Sling classes also for 8CHF per class. You can take these classes from as early as 6 weeks after birth if you have a normal birth with no complications.

There are also mum and baby yoga classes for instance at various places around Zurich.

PM me if you want to know more as I am trying to make these classes more widely known to recent mums since my wife will be giving birth shortly too.

To lose weight you should eat a minimum of 6 times per day. At each meal, eat a big salad BEFORE anything else. Then have a small portion of good carbs (integral pasta, brown rice) and a small portion of lean protein. After 6pm cut all carbs. Drink a lot of water during the day.

No I think to lose weight you have to stick to nothing but nuts and ice before 4pm but only on weekdays (except Fridays if the weather is rainy). After 4pm suck on some salty chocolate balls a la Chef they make your appetite go away for junk food. For dinner eat nothing but salad and raw meat as it is well supported by studies (link to obscure tinfoil hat site here) that heating meat will bring the protein molecules out of alignment with the magnetic north and this will increase the release of free radicals. These radicals might then bring you to the attention of CIA which we don't want of course.

On weekends you must eat only pumpernickel bread made from organic bio and freetrade grains that were harvested by happy farmers with perfect teeth while a cow mooed nearby heartily.

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

I did put on a bit more weight than I should have with our first baby- but lost it all and quite a bit more with breast feeding- same for second one, and very quickly. Not easy with the first one due to emergency Ceasarian, as breastfeeding really pulls all your muscles in - but it worked.

I'm not quite sure if you're serious

Lose weight: Eat (not drastically) less than you use, and don't be drastic about reducing or start eating one-sided meals, because if you get annoyed with your schedule you'll go back to old habits and probably back to your previous weight.

Re: Losing weight after pregnancy

If you want to lose weight you need to consume less calories than you burn... simple. Eat less, exercise more.

There is no secret, it is just pure will power and effort. If Jessica Ennis can become World Champion a year after giving birth then any Mother can lose a few kilos.... if they want to.
