Where best to Paraglide in Switzerland?

Hi,

I have never done paragliding before. Where is the best place in Switzerland to do Paragliding? Options I'm considering:

- Sankt Ursitz, Jura
- Interlaken, BE
- Sonchaux
- Villars-sur-Ollon
- or is there another place that is better?

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your experiences/feedback about paragliding.

I've only paraglided once, and that was in Interlaken. Gorgeous.

Do you want to learn or are you just wanting a tandem flight? I did a tandem in Luzern from the top of Pilatus, cant remember the name of the guy who took me, and it was a birthday present, but it was amazing. I am sure there are many learning centres and courses, I know Nepal is the cheapest place to learn. I would recommend trying a tandem first to see if you actually like it.

If it is tandem paragliding, I highly recommend Davos, Jakobshorn. Spectacular views.

Re: Where best to Paraglide in Switzerland?

Zermatt has very popular paragliding from the three different ski mountains. The view with the Matterhorn front and center can't be beat

Did a tandem flight in the big bowl above Arosa, it was brilliant. In the Jura, you can jump from Mauborget above Lake Neuchâtel- much cheaper, with a great view of the lake and the Alps.

Hi, I did a 3 day course in Emmetten and at the end there was a solo high flight - would definitely recommend doing that!

I also took a tandem flight from Interlaken, taking off at Beatenberg and landing in the centre of Interlaken. Great views of the Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau mountains as well as Lakes Thun and Brienz

Re: Where best to Paraglide in Switzerland?

Actually guys, from the options for tandem paragliding which do you think it the coolest from the below link?

I'm getting a tandem paraglide as a surprise gift for someone who has always wanted to do it and have to use "my days" as I already have a gift card :-)

For a first flight, I doubt if it would make a big difference where you went. Perhaps pick one that is convenient to get to in case it is cancelled at short notice due to the weather and you have to go back at a later date.

Re: Where best to Paraglide in Switzerland?

On Swiss Romandie news yesterday, they showed a paraglider in the Jura who was pushed by a gust of wind into a high voltage electric line, and was hanging upside down for ages- whilst the firebrigade made the line safe and finally got him down! Didn't look very happy.

One tip- when i did mine in Arosa (3 of us at the same time, OH, one daughter and me, with 3 different 'pilots') the weather was fantastic so we picked up some thermals and went up and up, turning around as we did- and I did begin to feel queasy- I wished I had taken a sea-sickness tablet. He said they never warn people of this, as it puts them off. Next time I will definitely do so and enjoy it even more.

As I was approaching Interlaken on my trip, the instructor asked if I liked fairground rides. I said that I was Ok with them. He said that he would put the paraglider into a spin and to let him know if it was too violent. After a few exciting spins tipping at about 45 degrees I decided that a more gentle landing was in order.
