What level of skill is needed?

Thanks. I read that... and another thread I found, but neither really gave an idea of the difficulty of the course. I also tried to PM a forum member that had taken part... unfortunately they have not got PM's activated....

.... So I thought I'd see what others might know!

Well.... I'm signing up for it. Mainly because last night, by some miracle, I was lucky enough to find a hotel in St Moritz for the night before at a reasonable price.. so I had to make a snap decision! Will write a review afterwards for everyone.. if I'm still alive!

Good luck with the training and the race, it's a great experience. Although regarding that review afterwards, as a warning the Engadiner post-race report standard has been set pretty high. Perhaps you need to incorporate making rhyming couplets into your training regimen.

Haha... no poetry for me

What was the half-marathon section of the course like HeatherM? Any nasty climbs?

It's very, very flat. From Maloja to Pontresina you spend the vast majority of the time on frozen lakes, the (sort of) hilly bit is at the end where you bypass St. Moritz and end up climbing the side of the valley a short ways. The only hill I have in my memory was just before Pontresina where all the traffic ground to a halt. It wasn't enormous in terms of elevation, the most difficult part was descending the other side in a big crowd, as the consequences of falling can be pretty bad (get run over by someone) and conversely you have to be aware of not colliding with people in front of you. But compared to most of the other "big" skimarathons in the world this one is considered very easy. Just practice your descents.

Very very flat sounds good to me

I'll take the XC skis up on the alpine ski pistes and practice my descents haha
