Rugby League

Amazingly....there is no Rugby League club in Switzerland.

What is the desire to start one? Enough expats here in the Zurich/Zug region surely to get this off the ground?

Best game on the planet.. I'm totally past it now but.. good luck getting something up and running.

The boring, one dimensional Rugby UNION World Cup has already got me looking forward to backs kicking for touch.. not quite making it and having it kicked back to them.. so they can kick it back.. etc etc

The meeting at the George Hotel in 1895 where the Northern Rugby clubs voted 20 to 1 to secede from the Rugby Football Union.

Oh and the srummages, line-outs, multi-phase breakdown play, scintillating back moves, rolling mauls, forward and backs interchanging, off-loads, cross-field kicks, grubbers into the corner and bone-shattering tackles. Yawn...

Re: Rugby League

OK Paddy. I'll take that as a no from you then.

But to the wider audience. Would be good to get something going. Plenty of Union being played but that is for girly men.

Re: Rugby League

If you ask nicely at the Pickwick they will put it on, provided there isn't a big game on at the same time.

Forgive me if I'm confusing League with another silly version of proper rugby, played my men wearing pads and helmets on another continent, as I (fortunately) haven't had cause to watch rugby league since I was a boy, on forced visits to my grandmother. She always had Grandstand on, in the days of Eddie Waring's up'n'unders ......

....... but isn't rugby league the one, when as soon as there's any hint of a bundle or a ruck, they stop and then do little dolly taps back to the nice man behind, before their shoulder pads become displaced.

Union: Chess
League: Drafts

Different games requiring different mindset.
