Learning to Snowboard / Ski nea Zurich

Me and my better half are keen to learn to snowboard and ski respectively. I have had a few lessons previously but will be a bit rusty now. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a place accessible from Zurich by public transport?

Also, a bit of a silly question, but is it possible to do this year-round or only in certain seasons?

Thanks!

The easiest place to access from Zurich by public transport is Flumserberg - train to Unterterzen, gondola up almost direct from the station.

It's plenty big enough, and they do cheaper limited passes that only cover the easy slopes for the first few times. You can book individual lessons, I don't think they do adult group classes, so learning ski and snowboard separately will cost (same anywhere!).

If you want to do it fairly socially the International Ski Club of Zurich does four weekends in January.

Hi

I love snowboarding!!

You could go to Kanton St. Gallen, Flumserberg, it's a really cool place and you can arrive there by train in about 45 min.

As has been mentioned, Flumserberg is really close and super easy to get to by public transportation. I learned there with lessons a couple of years ago and it was good, and there's a few beginner-friendly runs. Another good option is Hoch-Ybrig, although the transport is a bit less straightforward since you have to make a couple of transfers.

I'm really looking forward to the start of the season now.

Sattel and Brunni (Mythen) are closer than Flumseberg and fine for beginners and lessons but as others have said you'll have to change trains and take a bus too. They can be a bit less busy though - Flumseberg on a sunny weekend is not for the faint hearted.

I'd agree with this - go on a day when it's a bit overcast, the locals don't bother going then.

Also if you're practicing your press-ups as a snowboard learner, it's better if it isn't sunny

I meant more take a day off work and go midweek, the place is deserted a lot of the time (but you do have to change trains at Ziegelbrucke on weekdays)

Lenzerheide would be my suggestion. A very easy train/bus combination to get here and some great beginner terrain for both skiing and snowboarding. i would also suggest getting private lessons as you get the most out of your time and can progress as fast or slow as needed. It is even possible to get an instructor that teaches both sking and snowboarding.
