Winter is among us! Snowboard/Ski picture thread

Hey all,

Winter is finally upon us and French/Swiss alps snow forecasts look strong:

Non stop snow! A blessing to some, a curse for others :roll eyes:

Myself, I'm super excited to get back out there into the deeps. Here are two pictures from Chamonix:

Lets get a thread started with images that will pump us up for the season start!

Re: Winter is among us! Snowboard/Ski picture thread

Are those pics from this season?

I need some snow in the central Alps (thinking Andermatt/Engelberg)

This doesn't look great for people near Zurich: http://www.slf.ch/schneeinfo/schneek...hstop/index_EN

Sigh.... this year compared to last year is like heaven and hell....

Is anyone doing any touring lessons or meetups this year? I'd like to finally break into that world but would like to find someone to do it with.

Isn't weather supposed to get very much colder in the next several days?

I got a mail from the guys at Swiss Alpine Adventure last night that they are doing some courses and touring or freeride weekends in the coming weeks. You can find them on meetup www.meetup.com/swissalpineadventure

a rather humblebrag thread this one, with year-old pics?? anyway skiing season started a month ago in Cham, then got a bit crappy (but only for those who don't tour), got back again last weekend, full power this weekend (but piste only for now, with consistent avalanche level 4 only desperate & stupid go off piste, airbag or not)

The vast majority of people who ski in Chamonix, ski off piste every day, it hardly caters for piste skiers. I have skied off piste most days, very little untracked snow 2 hours after lifts opening. Crevasses are usually a far bigger danger, especially so this year.
Interestingly the majority of people die when it's Level 3, Top qualified ski instructors can take clients off piste at level 4, so it's not considered as stupid as you think. Whats important is that if your are buried that your dug out within 15 minutes, that means you need to be rescued by the people your skiing with. By the time mountain rescue arrive it's very likely too late.

Ugh...whats with the underlining hate/negativity with messages from board members here. Im trying to start a thread you can share pictures for inspiration. Doesn't matter how old or where there from...its about sharing the passion.

Im not sure why mods don't clean that up but clean up my posts w/o pictures due to being "fluff to add post count"......fyi saiyajin, the only reason i 'humblebrag'

Anyways idk what you're talking about.....Im definitely gonna hit up Lavancher bowl and Balme off piste. Id rather you stay off the pow, more for me!

Where were you last year? Do you have rose-tinted goggles? Last year started terribly -- not quite as badly as this year, admittedly, but there was precious little decent snow in Central Switzerland until late January, when we had a great, extended run which went on for a few months. Hopefully this year will be the same. I've had two weekends cancelled already but I am determined to keep my date with Arosa two weekends from now!

By the way, my real skiing season started pretty well over Christmas with -20° and... wait for it... more than 100 cm snow depth at Louisersee and Ausschlagendes Pferd!

Re: Winter is among us! Snowboard/Ski picture thread

I remember reading once that statistically, CH receives more snow in February and March than December-January. In other words, all is not lost. Last year's season also had a slow start, and even though I'm getting a bit nervous about my planned ski week in Engadin i February, I'll wait until the end of the month before really freaking out.

Lol but his execution was poor at best adding zero value to the conversation.

Actually his post is similar to an internet troll....just here to stir the pot and put in his useless 2 cents.

Mods...any input or does his post count supersede any action
