Sledging on the cheap

Hi

Anyone know somewhere to go sledging where you don't have to pay the (approx) 50chfs the skiers are paying for a day pass.. doesn't seem fair if you just go somewhere and go up and down again on the same sledge run without all the variety you get on the ski runs... 20 to 30 chfs would seem more reasonable.

Re: Sledging on the cheap

It depends on how many runs you want to do.
In Sattel (www.sattel-hochstuckli.ch), for example: you can go up for 13 CHF (or 6.5 if you have a halbtax), do a lovely snow walk and sledge down to your car/public transport.

Flumserberg, I'd strongly recommend...

Going there by train is around 30 CHF and a single sledging ticket is 6 CHF with halbtax card.

Re: Sledging on the cheap

Les Diablerets has the most fantastic sledge run, over 7 km long! It's 13 CHFs for a single trip up, but I don't know if they take a half-tax card... never thought to ask (but obviously will now).

Hi I did some sledging in the Wallis, Saas Fee and the smaller resort right below Saas Hoh (?) and they had special rates for sledgers. In fact in Sass Fee you are on a special run just for sledgers, it is on am mountain where general skiing is not allowed and about a 5k run.

Not the easiest place to get to.

Re: Sledging on the cheap

I've been to ELM a couple of times. Unlimited sledging for 32fr - obviously cheaper if you only want a single/few rides. Have only gone there by car myself, but i believe you can take train to glarus...

For kids or adults? Einsiedeln behind the monastery is the best for the kids and it's free.

Re: Sledging on the cheap

I am also interested in finding somewhere cheap and close to Zurich for sledging. Unfortunately Uetliberg is closed (not enough snow) at the moment.

What would be the next best place that is cheap and not too far from Zurich? Ideally somewhere with a train, so you don't have to pay for expensive chairlifts. Looking for somewhere that rents sledges out for less than 20 CHF a day.

Re: Sledging on the cheap

To help out w the cheap bit, why not go to one of the lower end brockihauses and buy a sledge? Got mine for about 15 CHF, also doubles as coffee table, shoerack, atmospheric extra seating at glühwein parties and 1001 uses around the house. About the same price as one day's rental and the rest is pure profit :-)

Though I'm guessing the best pickings have already been picked this winter...
