Shower/Changing facilities [Zurich]

Right...so I live 10kms from central ZH, work next to HB, and want to cycle to work. I've got a bike, a secure place to leave it, and possibly even a discount from work to buy a new shiny road bike...but I don't have shower/changing facilities at work. I'd like to make the most out of the commute fitnesswise so I'm trying to find somewhere I can grab a shower after the morning ride in. Idealy I'd have somewhere cheap, open early and late, and within a short walk of HB.

I've looked at the showers etc downstairs in HB, but to be honest I'd rather not use them...so my next thought was joining a cheap gym. I've had a look online, but as expected the memberships fees are high, and don't seem to have any "lite" membership options.

Anyone have any ideas? Know a cheap gym?

Re: Shower/Changing facilities [Zurich]

I have the same question, shame this has been open since 2010 but maybe there are some more options now.

There are showers in Zurich HB and Paradeplatz - can anyone comment on them?

Or provide other ideas?

Re: Shower/Changing facilities [Zurich]

Never tried them, but don't forget that there are two sets of showers in HB, McClean and ZuriWC, so if you don't like one you could always try the other.

There are public changing rooms where you see the purple dots on this page; none near HB though, but maybe one is on your route and close enough: https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ssd/de/...en/laufen.html

If you also like to swim sometimes, you could buy a year pass to the swimming pools; there is one indoor pool at Zurich City and many more in the summer. Cheaper than the Zurich HB showers.

Re: Shower/Changing facilities [Zurich]

On the Mr-Money-Moustache Forum, someone recommended just wiping down with baby-wipes.
I assume, there is a sink where you can basically wash your hair?

We have one shower at work, but I only use it for changing clothes.
We have too little space to hang the towels to dry. Else I would probably shower (and shave) there ;-) And brush my teeth.

By showering somewhere else, you will lose a great amount of time.

I would really bring that forward at your place of work. Often, it is possible to have a shower/changing room outfitted with little additional cost.
More people will use it, once it's there and it has little to none running costs.

If I'm going to change jobs, this is one of the things I will make sure to ask early on.

Re: Shower/Changing facilities [Zurich]

Why not write to the local Council and ask them. My old town of Leicester has been way ahead with this- they asked about 20 years ago what would encourage people to cycle into town- and the message was clear 'somewhere safe to leave the bike in town, with lockers and shower facilities!' - a Bike Park was built in the cellar of the Victorian Town Hall, with showers, parking for bikes, a bike shop + repairs, bike hire + lockers. Brilliant. Every larger town should have the same - why not suggest it.

And for anyone who needs a convenient way to get a suit to work, we found this backpack which is specifically designed for the purpose! (And it is locally made!)
