Re: Carp Fishing

My thoughts were meandering along the snob schism between fly and carp anglers and I began to wonder which of the two is the more expensive.

For the standard trout fly outfit you can get state of the art basic equipment (rod, reel, line) for around 1500USD and probably spend around another 1000USD (Note the use of USD - double if purchasing in CHF) for start-of-the art rest (waders and boots, vest, fly-boxes, hats, nets and all the little things you can't do with out). You might end up having 2-3 rod/reel sets (small water, "normal" and sea).

I also get the impression that fly fishermen try around with rods a lot - actions etc.

What's the equ. for carp fishing?

Thats a tough question. Just like any sport, you can spend as much (known as a tackle tart ) or as little as you like.
To be able to fish for carp with a 2 rod setup and in comfort( Chair, umbrella etc) can cost less than 2000 Chf.
If you want top name brands and gold plated bite indicateurs, (Yes, they exist!), you can spend 6000 to 8000 Chf easily.

I just set myself a limit to my budget and bought the tackle accordingly.

Re: Carp Fishing

So, has anyone got to grips with the "new" fishing rules....? I assume people are still letting their fish go?

Re: Carp Fishing

I do pretty much what I've always done.

It's not like I'm ever fishing close enough to someone I don't know that they can see what size and species of fish I have anyhow, or if I lost the fish while netting it, or it slipped out of my hand, or any of the countless things that can go wrong while landing a fish. I just don't worry about it.

I was just fly fishing from a float tube at the Wägitalersee for trout, and I caught a bunch of Alet of various sizes, and I let them all go. I don't want to eat an Alet and I certainly don't want to kill something I'm not going to eat, so I carefully released them all.

Re: Carp Fishing

Guys, does anyone know a nice place in/around Lago di Maggiore on a Swiss side for carp fishing?

Cheers!

Re: Carp Fishing

Hi freerunner! Welcome to the thread.
I've been having a look around for you, i didn't find any known spots, but the professional fisherman of the lake say that the carp can always be found close to bank in any cover.
Hope this helps.

Marcus.

Re: Carp Fishing

I was in Vienna last weekend. Spent EUR 200 for two pretty good quality no-brand rods with Shimano 6000 reels and fishing line was given as a gift. It was a special offer of course. But my point is that by searching carefully you can always get good deals.

I have already tested the rods. My result is: 17kg storgion and 6 carps from 8 till 15kg )) NICE!!!

Re: Carp Fishing

Think I will bring my Fishing gear back on the plane with me after Christmas... I really fancy getting back into it... sometimes nothing beats sitting there either alone with your thoughts or quietly chatting to your mate while watching the tip of a rod intently for a bit. For me, the mild buzz and expectation of catching something means the hours pass happily regardless of whether I catch anything or not. Though obviously I prefer to catch things.
