Re: Carp Fishing

I'm interested in resuming Carp fishing. Been in Basel for 8 years now and haven't been since leaving UK. I somehow lost my gear in the move but am quite happy to go on a shopping spree when in the UK next with the car.

Interested to hear about the carp fishing in Alsace mentioned in an earlier post, as that's near to Basel . Also wondering if anyone tried that Balkan fishing place a short distance from Basel.

If there's some good carp fishing and the new laws aren't too ridiculous I'm defo. up for some fishing days/weekends and a good carp gear shop!

Hi!
The only places that i have found so far are posted in the Carp Venues thread on this forum. It would be good to hear if you find any others in the Basel area. I'm only 3/4 of an hour drive from Basel.
Regarding a carp shop, theres one in Thalwil i think on lake Zurich, another in Moosee near to Bern, and then of course you could always get stuff sent over from the UK. From my experience this is still cheaper than buying here, even with the P+P added!

Re: Carp Fishing

I just ordered some bait from Carp syndicate near Zurich. Their service is excellent and the prices aren't too bad either. It took 1 week from ordering online to recieving the goods. Good to know that at least one company can supply quality bait here in Switzerland!

Since last thread I found out that a mate (who had posted on here) is a big carp fisherman. We always spoke at parties but carping never came up!

Since then we have braved the cold and been out at Neuf Brisach in Alsace. We drew blanks but so did the entire lake, which was only 2 days defrosted from completely frozen! I'm going tomorrow on the Canal from Basel to St Louis where there are supposed to be some good carp who feed more in winter than lakers (am leaving for a prebaiting spree now).

There's a great shop in Germany, just 200m over the border from Basel that sells loads of carp gear at really good prices. He did me a discount worth about 30% which made it comparable with UK prices plus shipping. He also owns a lake in France which me and my buddy are keen to try, once it's defrosted. Carp to 50lb plus and catfish, sturgeon, pike etc.

I'll keep posting my findings and successes as they arrive. I'm not super confident about my chances tomorrow as I'm not too experienced in river carping (give me a still lake full of stockies anyday!) but a day with the line in beats any day in the office right?

Tight lines to all (if there's anyone else mad enough to be fishing this time of year!)

Totally agree with you there! I can't wait for my local lake to defrost, i might have to wait a while though cos its at an altitude of nearly 1000m .

Re: Carp Fishing

The lake near me here in Jura normally thaws out around Mid April and the season opens at the begining of May.

How do you go about getting a permit to fish on that stretch of canal?

Re: Carp Fishing

Hi, I'm still up for it but do I need to sort out license/exam etc. before I go....or are you in an exclusion zone?!

I only managed a 5 day trip to Dijon last year but at least I know my tackle is still in order...oooo err!

Re: Carp Fishing

OK !
I just got in contact with owner of the lake in Mooseedorf near Bern.
If you buy an annual permit, (Chf 110.-) you can start fishing from the 15th of April. Day tickets, (Chf 28.-) can be bought from the 1st of May.
He does not require you to obtain and pass the Fishing exam to fish his water.

I suggest we go Saturday the 1st of May or Sunday the 2nd.

Let me know!

Am off for a week's fishing at Roe Deer lake in France for a week from 1st to 8th so can't make that. Am keen to try new places and meet other carpists.

I've been pretty active already this year. We have established a good local lake and been out several times there, plus a stint on the river. Had some nice fish, but no record breakers (16lb has been the biggest but the lakes we're fishing has up to 57lbs, so am optimistic). It's only 10EUR/day and they allow night fishing too.

The lake in Jura sounds good. Do you know what the stock there is?
