Ok so I am currently doing 36km per day after slacking for last one year. Anyway my next step is to reach river Rhine from Oerlikon/Zurich. I have been studying aerial maps of Zurich area and river Rhine seems reachable. Has anyone gone to it from Zurich?

I prefer biking alone which has it's positive and negative sides.

Positive-
- I am not dependant on anyone and it's me alone with mother nature.
- Don't have to slow down for someone slower than me or struggle if someone is faster than me
- I don't have to put uo with some strangers personality.

Negative-
- I worry about nazi skinheads attacking me in the woods as the amount of CH flags and SVP banners I see in the country side worries me little bit

So any advice on this trip? Should I carry a tiny Swis flag?

While biking out in the wilds of Switzerland I have had two run ins...neither was with a nazi. relax.

(The first was outside of Winterthur. I was sitting on a rock in the middle of a shallow stream soaking my feet and eating lunch. Some punk ass little shits, maybe 6 or 7 seven years old, aüslanders, started throwing rocks at me. I went to follow them but they disappeared into a large family group picnicking.

The second was along Bodensee. I accidentally found myself off the bike path and a short (1km) wanderweg. By the time I realized it I was only 50m from the end. But this 50-something Swiss woman stood in front of me, grabbed my bicycle and demanded that I walk my bike back and continue on.

Moral of the story: watch out for aüslander children and old Swiss women.)

Thanks for that link! I was just using this http://map.myswitzerland.com/myswitzerland/? to determine the general direction. My way can be costly sometimes on the legs :-)

I have to admit that aüslander kids cause more trouble than the Swiss kids. One kid walking with his dad grabbed my wife's handle bar and said to her that she does not want to say hello to him because he is aüslander! WTF! We are both aüslander as well! His dad was laughing. Not much chance of the kid growing to become a gentleman with parents like that. I was ahead of my wife so did not realize what was happening.

The maps that Veloland sells are fantastic. The include the grade indication, train stations, segment distances, bike shops, vertical terrain profiles, and ever little villiage you'd want to know about (for water, food).

Could I ask you not to make sweeping, unqualified statements? Ladies and gentlemen, you know where the reputation button is...

I wanted to add "in my personal experience" but lack of edit button did not allow me to do that. Yes that statment is sweeping but that has been my direct experience. Should I completely ignore my experiences?

there are many types of Auslander and many types of kids. I don't see how they can all be your kind.

Ok I made it to river Rhine last week. The river was awesome! It was my longest non-stop mountain bike trip-->60kms :-) Coming back was torture for me.The journey was completely safe. People on the way were very friendly (I asked them for directions).
I will be going there two times a week as long as the weather allows. Next time I will follow the river and try to clock 100kms. Wish me luck :-(
