Mountain bikes from Coop

I have approx 500CHF of vouchers to spend in Coop, and have been thinking of buying a mountain bike with them. Does anyone know if the quality of the mountain bikes Coop sell at Bau and Hobby are any good?

If you are a bit mechanically inclined you should have no problem, else
spending around 1000chf would be better.

Re: Mountain bikes from Coop

Thanks - I've been hunting around the internet, and found one seller on ricardo.ch that has some bikes dirt cheap (and 99.8% positive feedback). I've just looked at their website http://www.gonser.ch and they have loads there too.

Apart from the fact that the bikes come 85% assembled, is there a catch I am missing?

Nothing too taxing - the odd ride around the lake in the evening or weekend and maybe the occasional attempt to go up something steeper

499chf from coop gets you this but frankly for 1000chf - yes i know double BUT - it would be a bike that was 3 or 4 times better!!

http://www.coop.ch/pb/site/bauhobby/...ikelID=4063535

eg.
http://www.specialized.com/ch/de/bc/...000&scname=MTB

if you are looking for something more citybike or touring then maybe something like

good luck

Re: Mountain bikes from Coop

Hi macessex79
Which bike did you finally buy? Was the mountain bike from COOP good? Right now I am getting this bike on discount for 200 chf instead of 500 chf.

What about the bikes on gonser.ch. They are giving good discount on it and they are selling it for 317 CHF instead of 849 chf.

Any feedback or recommendation would be great

JM

Re: Mountain bikes from Coop

Re Gonser.ch:

I bought this bike 6 months ago from them for the same price 197chf:

http://www.gonser.ch/sport-freizeit/...ger-2-1/a-151/

Looks nice, does what it say on the tin, but is heavy and didn't use for any kind of mountain biking, just as a run around - have a much sexier lighter mountain bike I got from Athleticum for 520 reduced from 850 or so, with front and back disc brakes, better gear shifters, orthodox seating position etc.

You have to assemble the bikes from Gonser yourself, which was fun and good to learn something new as i'd never set brakes before etc.

As a basic runaround it's fine, and was delivered with 36 hours of my order and ccard payment!!

I'm just not sure the "original price" they state is totally realistic - personal opinion, i'm far from an expert!

Re: Big_Mac
Looks like gonser have bikes on permanent discount! Do they also send tools to assemble the bike?

I haven't had a bike in years now, though I rode a friends bike couple of times. My use would also be confined to city or road use. I prefer to have a bike which gives me better grip and Mountain bike seems better in that sense, but I am still little bit confused if I should buy a city bike instead.

The leopard bikes that were sold there are of decent quality.I had one for years and had few problems.

I agree that Athleticum is the best place to start ... have some decent Sales on at certain times of the year and good after care service.
