Chamonix is easy to get to by public transport, and has a wide range of slopes - I've definitely seen a few people do boarding lessons there too, but I didn't stop to ask which school

For transport, google "Gare routiere geneve" - that's the website of the bus terminal. They offer online booking of combined bus and lift passes, and good timings to go out and back in a day.
e.g. to Chamonix - leave around 8am, get there about 9.30. Leave around 4.30pm for trip home, back around 6pm. You'll meet a few friendly people on the bus too
It costs around 60CHF
All from memory last year though, as you can't yet book for this year - no snow

You'll see plenty of other options too for resorts on the bus site - there's a good choice re. transport, but mostly French.

Swiss resorts are normally reached by train, so check sbb.

Another option is to google "Ski Club International de Genève" - it's a garish website, but lots of info about they trips they organise, which does include boarding and boarding lessons.

Hello, does anyone have some information regarding trips from Basel?

Ive heard there is bus transport to various resorts and a lift ticket is included but have no more details than that.

I Googled Basel Carreise Skifahren and got this.
Perhaps there are more under similar words. (Car = Coach)
There also used to be trips by train from Basel to Davos. Check out the SBB page.

Long time reader of this forum but just started posting recently. Do you guys ever organize some Group meets for ski/snowboarding? If so where is the ideal location? I would defi be interested in something like that

Someone has to take one for the team and do a fat chick. This works extremely well to please the Snow Gods. This may be funny but its not a joke, it really does work.


For me I watch this movie to bring the snow. And to reminisce about living the good life as a resort town local. The movie itself is hollywood cheese at its best, but watchable and sometimes funny.

Insane Skier Jamie Pierre died yesterday in an avalanche in Utah.
He really was insane jumping some of the biggest cliffs in the world.
R.I.P

It is sad indeed. But people in extreme sports go into them knowing the risks and with his style of skiing it inevitable that he could cause an avalanche at any time. Sounds like the circumstances around his accident were many bad luck factors (location, conditions, etc) rolling into one.

A minor quibble.

Since I joined EF, we used to have a Ski/snowboard thread every year called, Skiing/Snowboarding 2006/2007 etc to show the current season's skiing information in Switzerland. This was in the Sports/fitness section which is for sports and fitness in Switzerland.

This was full of useful stuff about conditions, ski-passes, special offers etc.

However, this year the same titled thread is full off stuff about snowboarding and skiing in the U.S.A, including lots of You-tube clips.

Shouldn't most of this stuff be in off-topic?

So, if this isn't the office Ski-snowboard thread, can this one be moved to off-topic so I can create the real one in this section of the forum?

Perhaps others feel differently?

There is already quite a bit of "Switzerland" already discussed here but I have yet to see a good enough snow fall to actually discuss skiing or riding in CH so far. When it starts then fair enough, I will be discussing my trips to Wallis and other trips here in Europe. Until then we can discuss ANYTHING ski, snowboard or snow sports related and besides, some of us travel and ski in other places.

In other words, we are bored and waiting for it to snow.......

Ah, november I thought, end of the Summer season, lets completely service the bike so it's ready for Spring.... off to Davos this weekend for some riding. At least the bike will be sweeeeeet.

Would love to join you but my hand is injured. For me November is when I am just finding my legs as I used to start in late Oct. sometimes even in Sept. But this years conditions are anything but sexy.

Dont know how many of you believe this but if it starts to snow in US before in Europe, Europe will recieve less snowfall. Remember last year when US had tons n tons of snow and we were busy mowing lawn (litreally). Same has happened earleir too.
As we all know its got to do with the gulf stream but as California Dreamer has said there is absolutely nothing brewing in Atlantic thats gonna offer us snow for some time to come...and i have already bought my season ski pass
