MTB racing can be dangerous

Occasionaly some funny people ask me if their are lions roaming around and if its dangerous to ride in the wild in South Africa, well after seeing this I suppose anythings possible.

Rider gets taken out by an Antelope (Red Hartebees?)during a mountain bike race in Kwa Zulu Natal.

No animals were hurt during the filming of this video, just humans

Re: MTB racing can be dangerous

This incident happened less than 10 miles from where I lived in California. I can't say I remember the guy but based on the club he rode with and where he lived, I'm pretty sure our paths crossed at some point. I used to ride through that area but at the time I was only into road riding and didn't have a mountain bike at the time. It was a pretty sad incident.

Re: MTB racing can be dangerous

2 weeks ago a deer jumped straight out of a bush 2-3 meters ahead of me.
Was a helluva jump - must have been 3-4 meters long - and happened on a rocky section of trail where I would really prefer not to fall.

I would have been the laughing stock of the whole Canton Ticino if I had been hit and injured :-/

(note to myself: buy a GoPro camera to film an eventual sequel )

<rant>
On another note alltogether: I hate to be riding a trail only to find myself confronted by some Pooch-O-Loco tethered to one of those 5mt long winch-leashes. WTF are those owners thinking? The beast will eventually get itself roped around bushes and tree trunks, etc, etc...

<rant mode="off">
