back home memberships are an average of $10-30 a month, i'm actually shocked

Let's go Fitness are among the cheapest, and you can even have reductions depending on your insurance (200.- off the yearly price with Assura).

But it's still about 80.-/month. I don't think you can find cheaper here...

Or take good value fr your money, and go the Malley fitness centre! For about 120.-/month you also have access to the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hamman... I love it there it's great!

Oh, and stop comparing with 'back home', wherever that is... You'll end up in a nervous breakdown soon otherwise!

I use Holmes Place in Lausanne and, yes, it's expensive but it's always clean, the machines are in very good condition and the personal trainers are lovely people.
I've never paid for a personal trainer because I just can't afford it, but a couple of them have been very kind to me and given me their time to help me with exercises to manage my horrible arthritis.

Yes I agree, as soon as you stop doing that you'll be on your way.
