Zurich weightlifting

Hey all - new to zurich and this forum

I have seen several threads for gyms in the zurich area, but on browsing the websites etc... they all seem to be health club-based.

Does any have any knowledge if there any proper weightlifting gyms in central zurich?
So far the dumbells appear to stop at 35kg and I havent even seen a squat rack yet!
No frills required, just something with proper weights.

Many thanks for any help recieved

Chez

Re: Zurich weightlifting

If you're looking for clean and snatch training (bumper plates) there is only crossfit Zürich or crossfit Turicum as I know.
There is also a very small weightlifting club in Thalwil with Eleiko material, but the trainer doesnt speak English

I dont know about Central Zürich.
I hear David gym and fitness1 to have a bodybuilder scene and a proper barbell equipement

http://www.davidgym.ch/104/48/News.html (Altstetten)
http://www.fitness1.ch/ (Escher Wyss Platz, 2 Powerracks)

I prefer easyfit in Seebach, because its only 550.-- per year. They got an excellent Powerrack

I use Westside (fitness 1), they have a good selection of free weights equipment. Although I'm no bodybuilder some of the people there clearly are!

Re: Zurich weightlifting

New to the forum, had to bump this post. I just moved to Baden, just outside of Zurich, and I'm looking for a gym with bumper plates for olympic lifting. The weightlifting club in Thalwil sounds like a good place to start, does anyone know the address? Google doesn't seem to know... Does anyone know of any other weightlifting clubs or any gyms in the area which cater to olympic weightlifting/powerlifting? And if there is anyone who is also interested in the sport, are you looking for a gym buddy?

Thanks in advance!

Ludwik

Re: Zurich weightlifting

The only place I've seen in Zurich which would match what you're looking for is David Gym. However the new place FIT MADE in Zurich which just opened has a proper squat rack. Good luck.

Re: Zurich weightlifting

Pity you are not near Basel, Sütterlein gym just over the border is mainly a grunt and sweat, black iron type Muckibude.
I love it there, they think Zumba is something you put in curry.

Re: Zurich weightlifting

Yes, I'd agree with POWERlifter.
I've been with David Gym for about a year now and it's been absolutely great for weight lifting training.
It has an abundance of machines (with the cables), the machines with free weights on (sorry, don't know what they are called) and then just pure free weights - dumbells, barbells, squat rack, etc, basically whatever you can think of that can fit in a gym and be useful by the majority of people.

There's also a couple of professional body builders that I can think of from the top of my head, that I see on a regular basis, so I suppose if it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for most.

regards

Re: Zurich weightlifting

Westside for me - very good free weight selection - and racks.

I can also put you in contact with a trainer who trains a female bodybuilder (to the world championships).

I wanted to bump this as well. I am living in THalwil and training at Holmes Place. I need a gym with more lifting gear. Specifically a squat rack. Can anyone help with name and address of the above mentioned?

Thanks,

Steve
