I would definately be interested in doing some ski tours this winter, i will be away until mid february though. Coming back when the skitour season really starts to kick in

If you cannot manage to get there because of working hours, try writing an e-mail to them. The worst thing they can do is ignore it. You'll probably find someone who can help you further.

Hello - are there any members out there who have joined the Swiss Alpine Club and have experience of doing Via Ferrata's (climbing)?

I have been looking for a Via Ferrata club in Switzerland, but I am not having much luck.

Does anyone have any contacts / useful information they could pass on please. I am a beginner at Via Ferrata's and would like to meet / join a club with like minded people.

A search on the Forum brought up this via Ferrata Thread. Quite a bit of helpful info there.

I recently joined SAC-Bern (as I am studying here)..I would be glad to meet up with few English speaking member from this part of Switzerland. Especially from from my past experience..I went for glacier climbing in Valis last summer and being a beginner and the sole English speaker it was a little difficult for me to keep up with the other members and learn all the technical details

You ought to be careful on these courses if you don't totally understand what's going on. A misunderstanding could be deadly.
But, anyway, you did survive!

There's a bit in Ranulph Fiennes's autobiography where he tells a story of when he went on a parachuting course in France. By his own admission, his French wasn't very good.
When told about a night-time jump that they were all going to do, he thought they said they were going to land in a lake (and when you do this, you release from your parachute a few metres about the water so you don't get tangled in your chute).
He was a bit shaken and shocked when he landed on a tarmac runway instead!

Thanks Tom! but yes I did survive..In fact I even enjoyed it! But it would be great if there were few more English speaking people around although the last part of the climb was a little challenging for me due to bad weather.

So, this thread seems to come to alive quite frequently. I ask like the others, any tips on an alpine club in Zurich? I just moved here this week (to study for ~2 years at least), I have about two years experience in mountaineering, not very much but I've done a lot of hiking (multiday with camping), walking on icy and snowy glaciers, some rock climbing, touched ice climbing and very interested in doing a lot more of all of this (partly the reason I moved here).

I've found some info by googling around but this forum seem like a good place to meet people so here I am. I can crawl my way through german texts but I'm afraid I can't say I speak it (although I'm very interested in learning it).
