Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group?

Hi All

I'd like to set up a "Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group" on the English Forum. I've had a look and couldn't find anything similar (please correct me if something already exists).

The idea is to arrange days out at various resorts for anyone who's looking for skiing or snowboarding buddies at any level. It would all be very simple and informal (i.e. posting a date, time and meeting point at a resort). All ages and skill levels would be welcome.

We could then try splitting into groups according to skill levels and then meet up at various times throughout the day for food and drinks etc.

Does anyone else think this would be a good idea? Or does this already exist on EF?

Thanks all

Gully

Thanks for the link. I will post the idea on there too. The idea of the group is to have a central place where we can easily organise or see if there are any upcoming meet ups at any of the resorts in CH

if you have too many people on the same event (and at different levels) than it might be slightly difficult to coordinate on the slopes, but might be good to bring people together to one place and also help them sharing the transport

Sounds a good idea, count me in. I also know a couple more beginners who would like to join an English speaking group for learning.

Re: Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group?

Hi All

I've set up the group in the "Groups" section of EF. I have provisionally suggested a get together for anyone interested at Engelberg on 14 January. Please feel free to join the group and attend or organsie any events.

Thanks

Gully

Re: Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group?

Great idea, I would definitely be interested in the future, but can't that weekend. I'm relatively new to Switzerland and skiing, mainly on red and blue slopes so far. I would love to see more ski resorts, especially in the East of Switzerland where I have hardly been so far.

Re: Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group?

Hey Gully,
I'm new to the forum and just tried to join your group but for some reason it won't let me. I can't seem to find a join button anywhere.

I've seen a few other groups on meetup that seem to organise fairly regular ski trips throughout the winter. I think I'm going to go with one of them next weekend. (7th January). Not sure where they are going yet, but if this snow keeps coming it should be good.

I'm what I would consider an intermediate skier (I used to snowboard too). I can ski pretty much anything the mountain throws at me, but maybe not with the best technique or style.

Re: Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group?

Hi JudgeFred

Welcome to EF. I am not an expert of EF, but you might be having problems joining the group because you are a new member to EF. I know that you have some limitations at first (such as the number of Private Message you can send etc). Maybe joining groups is also limited at first. Can a MOD help/clarify here please?

If you are able to join the group, you should get the option to do so (when you click on the group page) in the top right of the page window. The group page can be found in the "Community" section of EF, under "Social Groups".

You can also check for upcoming events and let us know if you will be attending or not in the EF calendar (which is found under "Events" - "Social Events"). Feel free to add your own events too

Good luck with it all. Hopefully we'll see you on the slopes soon.

Hi Denman

I'm glad that you are keen to join the group. Hopefully, if we get enough people interested, we should be able to orgainse a fair number of events. So I'm sure there'll be one that you can attend soon. Otherwise, feel free to suggest your own. Just name a resort, time/date and meeting place on the group page (and add it to the EF social event calendar if possible). That way you wil know in advance if other EF members are likely to join you.

I hope to see you on the slopes soon.
