Beginners slopes near Zurich

Hi all,

My son (6 year old) is here this week, he loves skiing, although he's an early beginner. We've been to Flumserberg, well Tennenboden, this week. It's a nice place, but the beginners slope is only 20 metres long and you can only do about 2 turns and then he needs to get back on the conveyor belt.

What we really need is a green or easy blue slope, nice and wide where he can really practice for the day. We have no transport so am trying to find a resort close to Zurich that we could visit tomorrow.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Try Amden and the Arvenbuhl area (spelling might be wrong) but it has a great long wide drag lift blue run. Also Atzmaennig (again spelling might be iffy) but if there's snow lower down its a good learning area

P.s both require a car really.

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Tomorrow is meant to be strong snow in the mountains.

You obviously didn't see the other beginners slopes at Flumserberg. There is one which is about 200m and another of about 1km in length both are extremely easy nice runs for a beginner. Not sure from your post but I guess you dont ski yourself if you didnt see these runs.

The longer one is the chairlift near buses in Tannenboden and its pretty straight forward for a 6 years old

Flumserberg is most likely your best option if you don't have transport or Hochybrig however Flumserberg is easier connections.

Here is the Flumserberg weather link but as I said you may want to wait a few days till this next fall of snow passes.

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

I might be wrong but I got the impression his 6 year old is a total beginner so I really don't think the chair lift at flumserberg would be the ideal choice yet. I agree on the other D lifts though

What's his level of skiing CM?

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Yes the other area is probably pretty ideal. If you walk across past the learning area you mention in the first post about 200-300m there is a small slope which has a good chance to practice reasonable wide turns and would allow 10-20 turns to get down. There is a T Bar to get back to the top and you only need a card that entitles you a certain number of runs

Give him 2-3 days and he will be on the other run.

Give him to the end of the season and he will be on the red runs its amazing how fast kids of that age pick it up

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Info for atzmaennigg

Can't find decent info for Arvenbuhl but have a look at the piste map it's the Skilift Leistkamm far right - shows it as red but it's a very nice wide easy blue run

Oh and forgot this place - we did lots of learning here - prob Ok for transport too, train to Einsiedeln and then bus to Alpthal

http://en.skiliftbrunni.ch/

There are also other great blue runs around this rea especially if you go up in the little cable car

Hope this helps

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Thanks guys, will look into it. He's a total beginner, only done 2 days so far but is progressing fast. Can stop and turn well already. I snowboard well, but am learning to ski on the small skis just so I can follow him to keep him out of trouble.

Looked at Brunni too, looks good, 13 chuffs for a day pass for 1 blue T-Bar lift, think that would be fine. The weather looks great for Sunday so I think we will have 2 days resting the bruises and then hit the slopes. He's off home on Sunday night, would be great to hand him back to his mum absolutely exhausted :-)

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

Amden/Arvenbuhl as mentioned.

Arvenbuhl has a number of easy blue runs (not that I have done it) - and the Ponystock is he is a "very" beginner!!

Amden has the chairlift - which is quite fast to mount (and dismount) doesn't slow at the top. The run back down is very nice - although the top 50m is quite steep. Watch out for runners , walkers and sledgers as you cross the road - 3 times!!

Amden is also VERY cheap. If you are going up this weekend give me a shout - PM before 1600 today

EDIT: there was around 6" of fresh snow overnight, more expected today and tomorrow.

Assuming you mean the Klostermatt area at (Engelberg) village level, then it's also worth pointing out that there's a two-stage moving carpet and a button drag as well as the T-bar, all on the same pass. For complete novices it's perfect, with a nice open flat area at the bottom to start on too, and it's also possible to buy single-ride tickets, full details here

Gerschnialp, on the Titlis side of Engelberg, is also very good, especially for someone who's not an absolute complete beginner. I'm teaching up there in less than an hour, as it happens. Better start getting my kit on, I suppose...

Another vote for Brunni, Alpthal. They've got a good deal on at the moment as well -

Sounds good, from the webcam it looks perfect. Plus closer than Flums, only 1.5 hours from our house.

Well we went to Brunni today. Was a great day, took my son and i a while to master the t bar lift together (2 falls on face).

The blue slope was a little steep for him to begin with but he mastered it after a few attempts. 22 chuffs for an adult lift pass and free for kids can't be sniffed at!!

So annoying yet so rewarding how quick kids pick up skiing. We even went off piste and I had him doing some small jumps by the end :-)

Cheers all

Slopes for beginners (Zürich area)

Hi,

I am looking for slopes that are good to practice the first things I've learnt...
A friend adviced me "Brunni", but I've see there are many of them, and they are not available with snow'n'rail...

What do you recommend me? I was in Hoch-Ybrig and I only could ski in one blue slope. The red/black ones were too difficult for me...

Suggestions, please!

Another question is about the Snow'n'rail tickets. Is the price different depending on where you take the train and buy the ticket? I was playing with the touchscreen and found that I could get the 1-day-ticket for Airolo for 45CHF. Is it possible??? I found it very cheap for Switzerland... Does the S'n'R ticket include Train + Skipass + Train back?

Thanks.

Re: Slopes for beginners (Zürich area)

It depends on how far you want to go and IMO what days you want to go. Flumserberg is extremely convenient from Zurich by train and it has one blue maybe even green run called Chruz piste that is 2 Km long serviced by a chairlift ( so you can get off your feet). If you can ski midweek it's great there, I've heard it's absolutely rammed on weekends so I've never done it.

Brunni (Klostermatte) at Engelberg is a good beginners run but a bit easier and a lot shorter and a lot further from Zurich than Flumserberg. In Engelberg up the Titlis side there is also some blue area serviced by tbars. If you were after a weekend trip there are lots of accommodation offers at all price levels

Brunni-Haggenegg has been recommended to us and the piste map has a lot of blue runs. I'm guessing this is what was suggested to you. I've never been but looks good for beginners.

Maybe not a day trip but we skied and stayed at Lenzerheide last year. A lot of blue runs if you are after variety there. I really thought it was great for just off the bunny hill.

There are loads of other options. I'm not in Zurich and tend to drive. I'm sure you'll get some other suggestions.

Re: Beginners slopes near Zurich

I only wanted to ask if Airolo is a good option for a beginner like me.
I saw that the Snow'n'Rail ticket costs only 40CHF for me!!! I think that costs the same from Zurich HB.

Do you know where could I get a list with the whole options, blue runs available and prices??? It would be very helpful.
