Good place in Zurich to get ski's repaired

Hi

I've damaged one of my ski's so what looks like the aesthetic gel coat has been deeply scratched and a chunk removed to show the laminate inside the ski. I think its mostly aesthetic damage but I dont want to risk getting moisture in the lamination and that causing problems. Any ideas where I can get it fixed for a resonable price in Zurich?

I also need to get my partners snowboard completely re-waxed and serviced as she announced it had been about 5 years since it was last done

Any advice happily recieved

Thanks

A picture might help, if you want advice on the damage. Is it on the base of the ski, or the top? If it's the top then just slap some araldite over the hole to seal it in - if it's the base, and we can assume that by 'gel' you mean the plastic base material, then it will need a repair using P-Tex. Any decent ski shop should be able to do this, depending on how deep it is. Many shops will just use a machine to repair it, which may not be as effective if it's a very big hole, so ask them what they think before letting them loose on it.

No idea on shops in Zurich, but I'd tend to avoid the likes of Oschner, and look for a more specialist mountain/ski shop, who will probably have more experienced and knowledgeable staff.

Thanks for the reply. The damage is to the top of the ski so maybe a hot glue repair will do the trick. I just want to make sure no water can get in and create problems with the laminate.

Cheers

Yes, that should be fine. I've even used silicone bathroom sealant in the past. Really no need to get it repaired at a shop.

Yes, it's a good idea.

Hi

There is a shop next to petrol station before rote fabrik on Seestrasse. I'll note the name en route home tonight and update. They do not seem to sell skis or equipment, merely service and repair so I assume it's prob quite reasonable pricewise.

Ski's repaired

Turns out other half bought a Group On voucher for stockli near the airport for her board so got that re-deged and waxed for 29.50chf.

Good news is they could fix my ski to and will also fill and rewax the giant gouge in the bottom of one of them too - seems I have given them a real battering after only 5 days of skiing on them!

All in, have paid less than 100chf for ski and board to be repaired and serviced, so quite happy.

Lenzerheide at the weekend with a bit of luck...

Unless the base damage is near an edge or very deep, you really dont need to do anything, often the repairs will come out in any case. A small stone to clean up any burrs on the edged & the occasional hot wax is really all the regular maintainance. Every 40 or so ski days I get the bases stone ground on a Wintstieger machine, it's a waste of money to do after a weeks skiing.

The big 40cm long gouge and white patches of worn off wax were the clue to have them sorted

They are freestyle ski's so maybe sking a little bit off piste on them wasnt the best idea. I'll be back on my Salomon X-wings for the weekend as they have always been quite hardy! (Maybe K2's are a bit soft?)
