Youth going up into to the mountains...

Hello there!

I would really like to meet some people my own age here and I see all these social events for us "youth" to meet at bars and such but as a non-drinker and not being the party type, that's really not the best idea for me. So, I thought why not see who's interested in a Hike sometime in this beautiful mountaineer's paradise?!

Before organising all the details, I would like to see if there is anyone interested in such an event. I don't want to restrict people but I would say the age group is meant more for 18-25. Also it depends on the experience and physical condition on those who do want to come, where we will be going exactly and how strenuous the hike will be.

I would love to go past the 3’000 meter mark, but I’m just as content going on a nice easy hike as well. Really it all depends on who wants to come.

I was thinking sometime in Spring, and hopefully we can meet for such an event a couple times a year. We’ll see how things turn out.

A little about myself;

I’m a Swiss-Canadian (Dual citizenship) who spent 15 years in Canada (I’m 20 now). I enjoy mountaineering a lot, especially doing it in a rustic theme such as with gear from the early 1900s (Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to do the same, I’m part of a club that satisfies that wish ). I’m very patient and good humoured and I don’t mind going on hikes with less experienced mountaineers as I enjoy sharing my skills that I have learned and I enjoy it even more when I can learn something from someone else!

So please let me know if you’re interested and what you yourself would like to do/achieve.

Horrido!

Re: Youth going up into to the mountains...

I've deleted your other post with the same content as two lots of replies in two places is not helpful to you and irritating to members and Mods alike.

Have a good look through the sports/fitness section and see how these things have been done (whether successful or not!) in the past. Check out the suggestions and the reports on the hikes. I may be wrong, but it seems that we have a forum full of folk asking if anyone will play tennis, go hiking, go skiing etc with them but comparatively few successful groups. Look at the ones which seem to work well.

I wish you luck in your venture.

Hmm, it seems as if there's not much interest.

While kind of on the same topic; I belong to a reenactment group that goes mountaineering here as Gebirgsjäger. If that spikes some interest in anyone, then send me a PM.

People will generally respond to something a bit more organized and less vague. I'm sure there's a lot of interest, it just happened to slip under the radar and go unnoticed by many a month ago.

I, for one, am always up for a nice hike. Yet I would hesitate to respond to this post (if I had seen it the first time around) in case you decide to travel too far or at an inconvenient time. I'm just one of those non-committal types. If you decide on a place and a flexible date, on the other hand, then people like myself may say 'Hey, that's near me, I'll make some time!'

Ditto, we'd be interested as well depending on location and time. I really miss hiking from Canada!

Check out the ZUrich hiking group, that is organised through the "Meet Up" website. They are mostly doing ski and skating events at this time of year, but also do regular hikes. A diverse, interesting group of people of mixed nationalities and ages.
