| | | Buying Skis online
So I'm in need of some new skis, but don't have the time or the patience to travel around CH from shop-to-shop.
Does any one have experience with any online sport stores in and around Switzerland/Europe.
I have found a good deal at http://sports.engelhorn.de/ for instance, but am unsure about shipping, customs, customer service etc.
Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or experiences from that or any such stores.
Are there good ones in CH I can surf over to and avoid the importing details?
Thanks in advance!

They will set the bindings up for you/your boots, prep the skis and ship VAT free to Switzerland, you will pay shipping and duty which will add up to less than the VAT you have saved.

Ebay.de has the best bargains, some companies reduce the german vat as well.

We bought ours from http://www.snowuniverse.com/ and were very happy. They know the tax-refund routine and we had no problems at all.

Thanks to both for the recommendations, experience and links. Looks like good stores, unfortunately they both don't carry (or have on the site) the skis I'm looking for
Any other suggestions?

I've ordered sports stuff from this online shop several times. No skis though. (You can switch countries for the Swiss version of it) http://www.sportscheck.com/shop-de_home
The have sale right now.
Maybe they have some good deals at the moment.

Finally found them, and fairly cheap at ski-outdoor-shop.de
Things went smoothly, they responded quickly to my english email questions (although responded in german).
Ordered tonight, they said 4 working days, we'll see when my new babies arrive!

Will I get them in less than a week is the question, and what kinda fees will I have to pay when delivered!

What did you get Chemmie?
I was in the UK for xmas so bought mine there and just brough them over. Saved myself some hefty change.
Got a cracking deal at Decathloh, some Salomon 24 GT pro with KZ 10 bindings all for £200. Used them only twice thus far, but very happy.

Update: Ordered the Salomon Twenty-twelves with Griffon bindings on Thursday morning (19th). Had to give my weght, boot length, ski ability and mounting style, german VAT was removed when I logged in as 'in Switzerland'. They arrived, mounted and ready to go Monday morning(23rd). Very pleased with the skis and very impressed with the quick delivery. The bindings brakes had broken through the box on both sides, and there was no packing material other than the cardboardbox. Store was excellent, everything went smoothly, would highly recommend! Just waiting for the CH tax/duty/handling bill to arrive.

I am only reading this now, but I also bought my skis from ski-outdoor-shop.de some years ago, and I totally agree: it was a pleasant experience. Good selection, decent prices, excellent service and fast delivery. Just my 2 Rappen, in case anybody else is interested in buying online | | This user would like to thank Wakey for this useful post: | |

Well I am old-fashioned I suppose, but I'd much rather pay a bit more to get skis from a professional I can trust, and who will know how to advise me properly- face to face. Also like the security of being able to take equipment back for minor adjustments, repairs, servicing- again to somebody I can trust and who will treat me like a valuable customer- and eventually take my skis, etc, in part exchange. Same with a car. But each to his own- have a great season. |

I am interested to hear how the customs bill comes in - I have always had to pay upon receipt of goods, does it sometimes come later?

That being said, I was always brought up never to trust a salesperson. Although a good sales person understands good customer service and repeat business, they are still ruled by 'the bottom line'. Not sure the situation for skis in europe, but I worked in a ski shop in Canada and we were constantly breifed by the employer AND suppliers how to fool people into moving product. The ski business is a huge 'image' and 'fake-tech' business, so one must beware. I chose these skis after going over many online reviews, (probably my time spend was woth more than the discount) and non-biased opinions-this system is yet to fail me for bigger purchases. The same skis cost 4 times more at the shops in canada--and I couldn't find them anywhere in CH-but I assume I would have been paying closer to a grand if I even found them here. We'll see how they ride tomorrow-and if I have to adjust the bindings.

Know what you mean. I am very lucky that the local ski shop owner is an old ski club and school friend I can truly trust. I realise that is rare, perhaps.

I can only recommend http://www.sport-conrad.com/
I ordered my skis on Monday and they were delivered by Thursday. They are also used to shipping to CH and will not charge the VAT (the comes in a separate bill from UPS).
