MTB restrictions in Bern forests?

OK, so it was early this morning and I wasn't fully awake, but something on the local radio caught my ear. Apaprently there are moves in the Bern cantonal parliament to restrict MTBs (and horses for that matter) to forest trails only, ie you mustn't divert from the marked paths and just wing it through the trees. A quick search came up with nothing. Has anyone seen or heard anything about this?

Re: MTB restrictions in Bern forests?

http://www.trailnet.ch has the details and is organising a campaign against this.

Restriction would be to fire roads only (i.e. all single trail off limits) Can't see it flying personally. There was an article and poll on 20 minuten yesterday which came out in favour of the bikers/horse riders.

You probably mean this law (actually it is a project for a law where the consultation process just started).

Thanks guys. Like I said, I was a little groggy when I heard it. The proposed law as it stands seems somewhat overbearing. Can't see how the odd MTB does any more damage than a group of runners or walkers.

Re: MTB restrictions in Bern forests?

It seems that there is a mounting psuhback against it, so the chances are quite good that the article in question will be watered down in the final draft.
