[Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

I'm looking for people in the Zurich area to climb / cycle / telemark with:

I climb indoors (Schlieren occasionally) & outdoors - although I've climbed for many years, my grade never exceeds 5
I'm also into Klettersteigs.

I prefer road biking to mountain biking - day trips - up to 100km.

Anyone interested in telemarking? (I'll be surprised!). On or off piste. Day trips or weekends...

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

Ditto for my husband and I. We just moved here a couple months ago and would love to meet up with others that enjoy the same outdoor activities.

We love skiing, especially off-piste or totally in the backcountry - We used to do a lot of hut-to-hut ski tours when we lived in Colorado. Used a randonee-type setup, and now trying to decide whether to learn how to tele. Also would like to do skate skiing. Haven't figured out where to go yet, but if you're interested we should all go together sometime...

We are mostly road cyclists too, although I have recently purchased a mtn bike so getting used to that. Are you ever able to get out for a ride on a weekday? (road or mtn) If so just let me know -- I'm always interested as long as it's not raining or snowing! I've ridden with the guys and up lots of hills for many years so you shouldn't have to worry about waiting for me

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

Hi there,

There's a few of us that meet in Schlieren for Rock climbing on weekends. Last week was my first time, and if we find enough people then there should normally always be a few that go. Great option for rainy winter days.

I also did quite a bit of telemarking in my university years, and would not mind getting back into it. Will need to get back into shape, but I was just thinking about doing some telemark this winter.

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

By my count there are 5 of us (at least) that telemark!
Maybe we should hook up with the local club in Toggenburg? http://www.telemark-toggenburg.ch/

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

Hi

I've often thought of contacting the Toggenburg club -only problem is that Toggenburg can't handle crowds. The queue for the cable car on Sunday can be unbelievably long.

It would be great to organise a telemark meet at Flumseberg as soon as the snow arrives.

Telemark rental?

Slightly off-topic, but.... we recently moved to Zurich and our ski gear is still in transit. We're both telemark skiers and need to find gear rental for the next few weekends. Is there anywhere in Zurich to rent tele gear?

Failing that does anyone know any somewhat local resorts that might rent?

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

pretty sure none of the town centre outdoor shops sell or hire. The only places i know that rent are;

Sport trend shop - Hinwil - out of town but not far and on the way to the mountains pretty much. Has a crap website which i can't remember. Only use 7tm bindings on regular downhil gear.

Marty Sports - on the main street of the last village before Hoch - Y - Brig, you drive past it before getting to the lifts. Is the kind of shop which has stuff dating back to the ark but the guy is a real tele enthusiast so last i looked the gear was okay.

Flims - at the resort, has a glacier for early season skiing too.

Fullmoons - Davos, pretty good kit, nice guys
Engleberg - can't remember the name of the shop but it's fairly obvious and Engleberg is a little honeypot for tele skiers. has a glacier too for early season skiing.

There must be somewhere in the Toggenburg but don't know details.

and finally I have my old Scarpa T2s size 23/23.5 and some BD Arc Angels (170cm) with G3 bindings -on the off chance that these would work for you.

Enjoy

Probably should have done a search before asking:-)

Thanks for the offer of gear. My wife and I have our boots here so we're just looking for skis. Looks like I may just have the perfect excuse to upgrade to some new sticks this year.

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

The Winterthur place fitted my bindings last year and had some nice 'fat' gear. Checkout movement ski's now you're in switzerland. You should be coming to the stubai telefest this weekend to demo stuff!

Mail order provides a much wider choice & usually better prices than shops in Switzerland. You coukld try http://www.telemark-pyrenees.com/ or http://www.sport-conrad.com/

If you are going to upgrade, will you be buying the new NNN bindings ?

How does telemark compare to regular skiing? Ie. why do people telemark ski? Is there an advantage or is it just more challenging and thus more fun? like single gear bicycles.

Well I certainly manage to make it look more challenging...

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

I am into my climbing as well and will be moving from Cardiff (Wales) to Zurich at the end of March 2008. I have a few friends in Zurich but none of them climb unfortunately... Is there any climbing club etc in Zurich that meets regularly every week, so I can get to know a few people?

All the best,
Theresa

Re: [Zurich] Seeking Climbing / Cycling / Telemark partner

The only Zurich climbing club is the Zurich branch Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). Rather different from your typical UK club as it has a membership of 6000+ !!
