basketball in Basel?

hi
i'm moving to Basel in few weeks and I'd like to understand if there are bball teams there. I've read few discussions about this, but it seems that Zurich has a lot to offer, Basel not really.
I'd just like to train a couple of times a week and play in some low division league, but I wonder if there are teams willing to accept players...possibly teams with english/foreign guys as I need to learn German before I join some local team
any help is really appreciated!

Re: basketball in Basel?

here are 2 clubs that come on google for Basel, basketball and verein:

http://www.scunibaselbasket.ch/index.php

http://www.bcallschwil.ch/

this looks to be a listing of some of the basketball clubs, by Canton:

http://www.vive-le-sport.ch/d/basketball.htm

I suspect you will find a mix of folks from all over with most of the clubs. I wouldn't expect language to be a problem, although I would not be surprised if folks politely encourage you to try and pick up the local language as you move along.

hope this helps, good luck...

Re: basketball in Basel?

In ye olden days Birsfelden, just outside Basel, used to be the place with one of the best teams in the German speaking part of Switzerland.
You could try them. (I don't like their Homepage much, but maybe their basketball is better than their computer ability).

Wow! Some doors have 'PUSH' written on them! If I thought their level of playng might suit my level of playing, I'd sure get in touch and see if anyone speaks English enough to tell me where the sports' hall is and what time they train. A common interest is a great way to get to know people and learn basics of a language and if you play already, many of the terms will be self-explanitory.

When our girls started swimming competitively in England, they were thrown by the coach saying 'go on red ten', but they soon enough found out what it meant!

Good luck in finding a team anyway.
