Zug mountain

Hi,

I was wondering what the name of the distinct mountain in Zug is called. It is the highest mountain that can be seen within close distance when standing at the lake and has a distinct antenna at the top of it.

My guess is that it would be somewhere in the region of 1500 meters high and can probably be reached when driving towards Oberwill and further.

Any idea what the mountain is called? Would like to try and hike/climb the mountain on Saturday and need to get some maps or information on the mountain.

Re: Zug mountain

I presume you mean the Rigi, i.e. the most significant Peak in this photo.

It's outside the canton of Zug, lying between Schwyz and Luzern.
It's a good 4 hour walk to the summit from Goldau at the other end of lake Zug.

Lots of info here:

Re: Zug mountain

The sledge run on Rigi is okay, I've tried it a few years ago. Not as spectacular as Bergün but better than Zurich's Uetliberg.

Re: Zug mountain

Long walk

A quick measurement of the map suggests about 15 km as the crow flies. Trains take 16 to 19 minutes from Zug to Arth Goldau, at the base of the Rigi.

Your guess of about 1,500 meters elevation is pretty close: my map says 1,798.

It is a great hike on a day with good visibility, and with the trains you can walk as much as you want, riding the rest of the way.

Re: Zug mountain

I was told that one of the best ways to walk the Rigi is to get a cable car up from Arth Goldau, then walk across from Rigi Scheidegg to Rigi Kaltbad and then up to Rigi Kulm (the highest point) - this takes you all the way across the ridge at the top, takes 3 to 4 hours, breathtaking views etc.

I'll try to find the link...

...here it is Rigi Walk
